Ships sunk captaincy counter
I think they intentionally didn't put this in as it may encourage some to boost their numbers by sinking every noob in sight even moreso than usual.
They have released these stats as part of the new year your pirate this year info but not sure it'll ever be made something always availabile. Pretty sure it is data they have though@eligibleeel6171 said in Ships sunk captaincy counter:
I assume you're talking about how many enemy ships you've sunk outside of hourglass fights? How would they determine what caused a ship to sink?
They have metrics that even tell them how many bananas you've burned.
@europa4033 But burning a banana is a fairly straightforward event.
- You put the banana in a pan.
- The banana stays in the pan till it burns.
With a ship sinking there are dozens of things that could have an impact. As a ridiculous example: say you fire on a ship and hit it once and then a galleon comes along and puts 30 cannonballs into it, then someone from another crew doesn't hit their ship at all but spawn kills the crew so they can't repair, then they accidentally sail into a rock and then throw a firebomb and accidentally set their boat on fire, then they get hit by a kraken, what would the game record as being the cause of their ship sinking?
Or to put it another way, what data would the game collect that allowed it to firmly and fairly establish that you were the cause of another ship sinking?
I'm not saying it couldn't be done. I just can't think how they'd do it, so I'm interested in how it would work.
@eligibleeel6171 pretty sure it's already a thing, a bit like to get credit for sinking burning blade as athena as long as you've hit one cannon if they sink you get the count.

Couldn't agree more. With so much going on ingame sometimes it's hard to tell what actually sank it.
I have joined in on battles with multiple ships involved and shot one cannon ball and seen a boat go down, should that be classed as my sink, or the other boats seeing they have been battling for a while and filled most of it us with water and killed most the crew? Just too many varibles.
You still get hit markers on ships when they are sinking beyond recovery.

Exactly what @HiradC said. Years ago, I used to look at the "My Pirate" section here, and it used to show how many ships you sunk in total to date. It doesn't matter how exactly it sunk, as long as you got a hit in or helped damage it in any way.

Honestly, I don't think so. For the same reason there is no milestones for players vanquished, it's not a relevant statistic. K/D in this game is meaningless.
Maybe, but it’s just a fun little stat that would be very much appreciated.
Bragging to friends about it would be awesome.

Bragging about what exactly?
How many ships you sank that were AFK, newbies, or fresh spawns?
Because that's what it would encourage, and then that stat becomes absolutely meaningless... but still puts new players off the game with a bad first impression. We already get enough complaints from new players about being sunk after just spawning in.
There's a reason the only stat for this exists in Hourglass (battles won milestones), where it actually matters.

Umm, what do you think?? XD
How many ships I sunk, or were you not paying attention to anything I said???

Agreed. We don't need more people harassing the newbies more than it's already happening now. This game will die that way.
