Character Selection Update/Overhaul??

  • After shamefully spending more hours than I'd like to admit today doing nothing but rerolling to change my character's appearance I truly believe it's the pirate generator is long overdue some sort of update. I know Rare's reasoning for their unique character creation system is to prevent us from creating monstrosities like in other games (like dark souls), however I think it would be a nice QOL update to give us presets to choose from so we can have some control on what our pirates look like rather than being forced with whatever the generator throws up. For example let us choose what gender/eye colours/weight/colour we want our pirates to be and the let the game generate pirates with the prefered features. I feel this way we have a little bit more accessability to how our pirates can look rather than spending hours rolling for a chance to get the perfect pirate for you.

    What do you guys think?

(Also I never did find a pirate I liked xD)

  • Spending so much time on the creator is player issue. Blaming the game for it isn’t right, since you rarely if ever will see yourself.

Anyways. I say the best thing to do is use what we already have.

Wait is this already a thing or do you mean it's coming in the next patch? If so that would be nice c:

I understand what you mean though however there should be some control over how you roll your characters. If anything there should at least be a 50/50 split between male and female pirates with each roll imo.

  • This request gets put forward every few weeks or months at the most. Overwhelmingly the player base wants it in some form. There are a few negative nellies against it. My suspicion is that in year 1 there was not that many options so it was a way to make certain we all do not look the same. I would think that has changed by now.

I would think it would be nice to have at least two of basic choices you could select. I.e Gender, build. Leave the rest random.

    OR

Limit the number of fav pirates you can choose to 2 or 3. Then when you hit reroll those three get put side by side and the new random pirates get generated based on the common traits. Want a skinny pirate male pirate, select three of them. Just skinny, select a female was well. You will still get a butch of different looking pirates but your look will always be skinny.

Exactly. The game has been out for 8 years now and (at least to my knowledge) the one thing that has never been touched is the charater creation. It is long overdue some TLC and your examples would be a great start if anything. Sure it's not seen as an important thing to change but honestly it needs it. Hopefully Rare takes notes since like you said this is a topic that keeps resurfacing c:
