Missing Silver / Sapphire Blade Cosmetics

  • This post is posted after the support asked me to post it here, so if its the wrong place for it (since I'm talking about insider rewards) then sorry I'm just doing as asked.

There are items still missing from the current Insider rewards list, which is a bit disappointing considering Rare's past efforts to keep the SB sets complete.

A similar issue happened with the Drum, Banjo, and Speaking Trumpet—added shortly after launch but left out of the Insider rewards. They were only added later when the Sapphire Blade set was announced, after the community pointed out they were missing. It took around 153 weeks from their release for them to be added, despite being introduced just 10 weeks into the game's life.

I hope we’re not seeing a repeat of that with the Double Barrel Pistol, Throwing Knives, Blowpipe, and Grapple Gun. Even if they’re less commonly used (Throwing Knives being the exception in PvE), that’s not a reason to overlook them and not giving them some love, especially since Rare seemed to want to keep the SB sets complete, at least in the past.

Also, as a side note, has there been any update on the rapier and heavy sword variants of existing sets? For example the Legendary one seemed nearly ready 2 years ago and is still not in game so I was wondering...

  • I hope to see them also. I expect the Obsidian model of these things will be released first. If I recall correctly the newer obsidian stuff is either community weekend stretch goals or xbox gamepass perks. We got a rapier recently. Let's hope once sufficent number of these have been released, we'll get get the other recolours

The difference between those items and the Drum/Banjo and Trumpet is that those three items existed but were just not on the track. The versions of that set for the Double Barrel, Throwing Knives, Blowpipe and Grapple Gun likely don't exist at all, because these weapons were added long after the Insider rewards were "finished". Since they have effectively said they are finished with new Insider rewards it's not likely that they'll get made and added.

  • @d3adst1ck While you make a point, the SB sets are just reskins of the Obsidian/Aristocrat/Mercenary weapons, with just a slight change to the model to add that insider symbol around the gem (except for the sword that got more to it I guess but it's already done). Considering that the Aristocrat weapons already have some parts done (at least the icons for the DBP and TK) and that the Obsidian set got a rapier it's safe to assume that the Obsidian/Aristocrat weapons will be completed in the future.

Also the Insider rewards was reworked in July 2024, the trinket added during the first week of April 2024 while the weapons were added the 30th of that very month, meaning the weapons were already fully designed, developed and tested in Insider before the end of the rewards list, so they weren't "added long after the Insider rewards were finished", only 3 weeks after in the live build, for the Double Barrel Pistol and Throwing Knives that is.
The Blowpipe and Grapple gun are an other story but were already planned back before the last insider reward was added so it's more understandable if we don't get them.

But, once again, they are basically reskins, it costs almost almost nothing to make them if they do the Obsidian/Aristocrat weapons that already got some parts done...

The Silver Blade stuff was probably all finished at the same time and long before they added Sapphire Blade, and the Sapphire Blade items were probably all done at the same time and then drip fed on the reward track in the same way. They would have been done long before they changed how the reward weeks worked and the new weapons were developed.

  • @d3adst1ck The announcement for the insider rewards stopping wasn't before announcing the trinket since both were tied, which means that players were presented to DBP and TK before the announcement, same for Insider testing of the weapons. Meaning that DBP and TK were announced before the announcement of the end of the insider rewards updates, so there's no reasons other than not wanting to do it just because they don't want to reskin a weapon already done and change the height map to add the insider logo.

  • @ariane-glhf the set completed itself with the trinket given at the end of the reward run. This was well before the introduction of the newer weapons so going back would increase the run of the reward track.
