HG improvements.

  • Seen/suggested before:

    1. Shrinking circle over time
    2. Skelly ship spawn on players after Xtime to deal with runners.
    3. To improve server performance: HG servers. You start in the standard high seas , then when you dive you go to server with fewer assets active. There are zero loot spawns except cannon ball and supply crates on islands, no world events, no skelly or crawlers etc. Up to three HG battles could be going on at any one time, once you finish your round you can either dive again or gun it to third party the other HG battle. Other than that its exactly the same as "normal" SOT, and to lower you have to dive back to main world.
    4. Keeping a slot free when a player is stacking so they can be invaded, if the server is full, migrates you to an empty one. This way defending becomes a thing.
    5. Server merge stacking HG ships into a server with a free spot.

    I would like to add

    A) All HG ships see all other HG ships of the other faction.
    B) A way to let the other players on the server know that someone in HG is stacking on their server. Once you hit level 2 in faction loot, a red or purple knife appears on all the other ships in the server. It would be on the opposite side o the brigisy quest spot. Red means its a Reaper, purple Athena. They would also be diff styles for our color blind crew. Interaction gives a message but you have to go raise HG to see where the other ship is on the map.

  • No, no HG servers.
HG is not a mode. It's a tool to find open world PvP. That includes being third-partied.

  • @guildar9194

You can still be 3rd partied, in fact you are more likely to be third partied with this suggestion. I was in a rush when I wrote this & have edited to be a little clearer.

  • Shrinking circle over time

Improves what? And how much does it shrink
What would happen if the circle happens to cut off between two ships around say Old faithful? Then what?

Skelly ship spawn on players after Xtime to deal with runners.

Ok. But how will the game know who is running? Or spawn on both?

To improve server performance: HG servers

This removing third party or other things. Which Rare wants it seems. Kraken or the Fog, maybe a storm could spawn. Or your at an active Fort. Non HG ships

This doesn’t seeem to be improvements for everyone. Just those who hate runners and can’t figure out it’s easy to catch them if you think and not focus on “meta”
And players who want arena back

Shrinking circle over time & the skelly ship suggestion (neither are mine) both deal with runners and/or deals with extended battles that go on forever. These tend to turn players off HG.

How they are implemented is the question.

Its easy to imagine with a moments thought that with the circle deal there would be a grace period for ships already on the outer edge, or the circle would not shrink until both ships where near the center, or re-center the center of the new smaller circle between the two ships.

Skelly spawns could either be random, one on each player or targeting the ship with the most repairs done. As the latter would be the runner in 99.99999% of cases. If you have done a ton of damage to the other boat and not your own, you don't tend to run.

To improve server performance: HG servers: As I already stated, you would still get 3rd partied by other HG players, if anything 3rd parting would happen more often as one HG match ends, the winning ship resets, loots the barrels and then check the map for other matches to third party. This in itself would mean we would not have to implement the shrinking circle type things. In addition, if the server was not wasting memory on a skelly ship on the other side of the map with no players there, would be plenty of extra memory to spawn any of those things on the players more often. They only difference between HG servers and standard high seas would be HG servers would not be wasting memory on things no one is interacting with. To lower you still have to go back to standard high seas. There are no extra mechanics and programming would only be changing the values in a few lines of existing code.

While its good to point out potential problems its more productive to list a few solutions after them. I never see you do that.

  • I've seen the shrinking circle suggestion a lot and maybe I'm missing something, but I genuinely think a shrinking circle would encourage running.

In my experience (interested to hear if this is not the norm) players run because they don't want to engage in naval combat. They want to board your boat and spawn kill you while they sail your boat out of the arena.

If the arena shrinks over time, running, boarding, and sailing your opponent out of the arena becomes a more viable and effective strategy, because all they need to do is run until the arena starts to shrink and their job will be that much easier.

  • This has already been discuss in many places, but again, imo if they just add daily challenges that gives XP in HG, it would would bring a larger audience of players that could progress in HG by actually playing the game. No need to change crazy things just make the game more rewarding and it will bring players that HG needs.

I agree, at this point literal thousands of suggestions has been made to ''improve'' HG yet they are actively ignoring it or don't seem to care THAT much.

Really my creativity boiled down to what you are suggesting in terms of XP/Challenges/Events like Fight Night related to HG that will boost Queue times up a bit more and have more variety than Timmy and Jimmy on open crew gally triple sailing into a sink. SnoozeFest Central in a lot of matchups.
