Short, repeatable "adventures/ short stories, would be cool to have. Tall Tales are awesome, but take a lot of work and normally are too long for players to want to repeat after they get their rewards.
The short adventures were almost perfect length, but they lacked the ability to be repeated.
After listening to the podcast today, I think Rare should focus on making a short story format and give some cool rewards for completing them. Here is what I had in mind.
They could start with 3 short stories and each one gives a specific reward for completing that story.
We could call them SeaDog Stories or Sea Stories.
The stories themselves could be basically anything. Maybe we have to start at the Sea Dog Tavern, talk to an NPC and follow the clues to find a missing SeaDog Npc that has gone into hiding. Or maybe we need to help deliver supplies to different large islands that will be building lighthouses in the future. So, the large braziers that players can already light on certain islands, could maybe be turned into lighthouses in the future? The stories do not have to be about or related to SeaDogs in any way, but I thought it would be neat to have a few that are, so new players could interact with some of the old npcs from years past.
I thought the rewards for completing these stories should be special so here they are:
All stories will reward a charm for the ship that was used during the story. So, if you used your sloop, you would need to repeat the story with your galleon or brig if you wanted the charm on that ship. The three charms that can be earned for completing each story will hang just under the compass on the ship. They will be small, be still prominent to know if that ship has them.
Short Story one: A charm that makes all seaforts, skeleton forts, and island cannons manned by npcs, decrease the range that they detect and fire on that boat, by half.. So now we aren't being shot at miles away by random cannons, unless we sail much closer.
Short Story two: A charm that allows the ship to be completely hidden if parked inside a Shrine or Treasury bubble and it has to be active, meaning at least one player has to be down actually doing the Shrine/Treasury.
Short Story three: A charm that shows all uncharted islands on the map.
I think it would be cool to not only have stories to play through, but these rewards, because they offer nice quality of life to the players who obtain them and make the stories repeatable, because players will want to get them on their other ships too.
All three charms being collected on the same ship could also unlock some sort of title and maybe a new jacket or something.
