Free Hourglass Allegiance

  • Most of you are aware of the free HG potential right now with HG diving disabled, but for those who aren't, this post is for you. Currently HG is still available but diving to HG matches is not, what this means is that if you have HG up, you cannot be invaded. What that means is you can play the game normally, gather loot and acquire a "faction hoard", get that thing to level 5 and turn in for a quarter level of allegiance. It's not particularly quick, but it is consistent and basically free since you likely won't have to fight for it. When I heard HG diving was disabled I assumed I'd be seeing more HG "defenders" sailing around, but I'm not. For those who are just in it for the allegiance (or others), take advantage of this opportunity. You can see what your faction hoard is by looking at HG while HG is active. You could still be attacked by other HG players, but if someone out there has HG up and is wanting to attack you, they'd probably do it anyway regardless of HG.

There's no reason not to be playing with HG active. Also keep in mind that emissary's only give a boost to gold when turning in HG streaks and/or hoards, so if you really want to be incognito out there, don't raise an emissary. You're only visible on the map as an HG active player when you have a 4 streak.

  • At the same time though, you risk being forced to move to another server if you sink so consider that before listening to OP.

  • I considered it, but I’d rather tdm instead.

  • Shamelessly posting exploits on the official forum is kind of wild... but you do you i guess

    Hahaha…give it time.

How is it an exploit? HG is still functioning, you can still technically get fights, diving just isn’t available. Also, in some regions HG is so dead that this is essentially how HG diving works at any given time, especially off-hours. Are OCE players exploiting when they raise HG at 0100 on a Wednesday?

Realistically, one can expect about 1 full level in about 3 hours. It’s basically at loss farming status, and that’s assuming no interference from other players. As someone with collectively about 1000 allegiance between guardians and servants, I value the effort I’ve put into HG and consider allegiance to be something that shouldn’t be handed out easily; at this point I mostly care about champion streaks so that I can get verdant bones. With that said, I have no issue with players taking advantage of the current opportunity to get a small amount of allegiance with minimal risk.

  • @burnbacon

I was hoping to see everyone with HG up, but unfortunately, I haven’t encountered a single other HG participant the last couple days. I even suggested raising it to a few people I fought.

  • I've been sailing with it raised. Have to say, I quite enjoy the risk of being a one life ship without the risk of being invaded. The amount of rep you get is minimal really and doesn't take away the effort of those who grind by diving. Like you've said above you could loss farm and it would be quicker.

I have both curses so I'm not using this as an easy mode. I think Rare should consider defense to work how it is right now with no invasion. People might actually opt in because with diving working hardly anyone uses the defensive mechanic and faction treasury.

I’d be okay with a no-invasion option with reduced allegiance gains. There is still the potential for fights, especially if it became more popular, but if one plays their cards right they could probably avoid them.

When I was trying to get to 200 in each faction as a newer player, I played around with the defending option extensively, trying to mix up what I considered to be a grind at the time, so prior to diving being disabled I already had a pretty solid idea of how to optimize defending. I ended up just doing a ghost fort for the nearly level 3 faction hoard. I’d raise HG only right before looting, and then I’d have 15 minutes to wait prior to dropping HG. Being a NA player, this is almost always going to lead to being invaded, which is why I stayed with a level 2-3 hoard instead of spending the time on say a FoF. It was a risk vs reward decision. I concluded that defending was definitely not the best way to level up quickly, but it was nice to mix it up. These days, my crew will raise HG as we sail around just to maximize interactions, but we’re much better now than when we started so we have a reasonable expectation of getting some reward for our risk.

I think that most people have also concluded that defending isn’t necessarily a great path to gaining allegiance, and the result is we rarely see anyone doing it. With a no-invasion option, with reduced allegiance gains, I could see defending becoming much more popular. Roaming the seas looking for defenders would also become a thing. Big upvote from me.

  • @capt-greldik your posted intent is to exploit the loss of a feature in order to gain levels outside of intended gameplay. Yes i would call it being a bad actor.

Okay. Well you should let Rare know that while they disabled HG diving, they continued to allow allegiance gains. Did you think they didn’t know?

I sure hope nobody got two levels of HG allegiance yesterday, would have been a travesty.

I logged into the game, raised HG as I always do, and played the game. The threat of being attacked by an opposing faction existed, though sadly didn’t happen. Which part wasn’t intended again?

You didn’t answer the question. Are OCE players exploiting when they raise HG at 0100 on a weeknight, particularly on a larger ship which has about a zero percent chance of being invaded?

  • Also, I think as of last night (or let’s call it 18 hours ago) there is no HG rep from turning in faction hoards. Can’t confirm if there is rep from winning or losing a fight, since nobody is using HG. Why is HG available currently?

Edit; correction, allegiance is still happening for turned in faction hoards, my allegiance number seems to be delayed. Significantly delayed.
