Add swinging ropes for dynamic boarding!

  • Hi Rare team!

I have a fun and immersive idea that could really enhance the pirate experience in Sea of Thieves: swinging ropes that allow players to launch themselves from their ship to another — or even between parts of their own ship.

    The concept:

    • Ropes or rigging hanging from the mast or sides.
    • Players can grab them, swing with real physics, and jump off at the right moment.
    • Great for boarding enemy ships in motion, dodging cannonballs, or pulling off epic stunts mid-battle.

    This would add:

    • A new layer of strategy and mobility.
    • More pirate fantasy vibes (think classic pirate movies!).
    • Tons of fun for creative players in both PvP and PvE.

Please consider this for future updates. The game already has the most beautiful sea and naval experience — this would just take it to the next level!

    Thank you for reading

  • @wholeboot774355 I see how this might feel very piraty, yet back in the day ropes were used for boarding when the ships stood next to each other exchanging cannon fire.

In SOT the naval combat is of a different variety as usually the ships are in the move and unless anchored they will keep moving in order to get the upper hand.

It's not needed but would be fun.

  • I wish this could be a thing but theres a lot of problems. When the grapple gun was announced, this is what people thought would be the case. It was seen as pretty overpowered. They actually removed the ability to grapple onto the mast and top of the boat because of this. Hopefully in like 20 years SoT will have all the features we want.

    I agree.

Probably make it way to too easy to board, especially if you can let go and fly through the air a bit when the rope reaches the highest point towards an enemy boat. Seems over powered.
