  • Temporarely removed, meaning that HG will be disabled until a proper fix is implemented.

It would be a good opportunity to scrap HG and bring Arena back :D (jk)

  • @quietxans

Disabled until they can fix it. So basically you can’t dive until they figure out the problem.

  • @oldreclaimer i think they gonna get rid of HG cause people barely play it. i bought the game thought the state of the game is gonna be like last year even tho the game wasnt crazy popular last year but the current state is really bad i barely have interactions with other ships and thats what sea of thieves is all about IMO. i just really hope they add a competitive mode cause if they get rid of HG too theres gonna be no competitive side to this game something fast paced like Arena.

  • @raidyn128460 I don't think Hourglass is going anywhere just yet. It has a TON of potential to even outshine arena, they just need to add to it, which Rare have said they want to do more for the mode.

  • "disable hourglass dives" are they removing it or doing some fixes i'm confused on the wording here.

Disabled....doesnt mean Removed. So it being fixed. :/

  • @valor-omega It needs variation, keep the ship vs ship part but also add in an objective based TDM style mode like Capture the Loot be it you're opponents or a single Chest in the middle of the map. Something that isn't just sink their ship.

@Raidyn128460 Odds are they won't get rid of HG as unlike arena, it doesn't take up extra server space. It finds a server with 2 open slots then places both ships in it or for Def reserves a slot for the invader.

  • @jeffjordan93 yeah ur right

  • @jeffjordan93 Yup, agreed.

My two cents to save hourglass:

    • WAY more rewards all across the board, both in the lower levels and post 1000

    • more game modes (TDM, capture the flag, 2v2, 3v3)

    • regular events (fight nights) that give bonus exp/rep (much like any good FPS)

We mainly just need big reasons/incentive for new players and old players to continually come back and engage. Currently the only ones that play it consistently are the dedicated folks who enjoy the mode, and newer players who either have no idea what HG is and accidentally vote it up, or people who are trying it out and quit after getting sunk by a full gold-cursed crew.

  • @valor-omega with better matchmaking, I know I'm bad at PVP solo but with my friends I can helm well enough that they can do the hard work. I hate doing solos and getting paired against the sweatiest of sweats with gold curse. Since I got my Skelly curse I've been mostly doing D20 loss farms so people with similar skill or lower than me who've been getting constantly stomped have a chance at win every so often. Only exception being the full try hards that while I'm willing to give them the win, are missing 90% of their shots on a imobile target and don't realize they can just pull up and fire 2-3 shots and save ammo. Basically act like a tool, get the tools treatment.

I'm also in the same boat (Pun intended) that bringing a revamped WORKING and UPDATED Arena mode would bring a lot of players back, but I also strongly believe RARE are too stubborn to do just that.
And also the amount of 'double downing' and they are very quick in shutting down Arena posts brings me to the conclusion they have ZERO interest in bringing it back, just how it is.

I think in the current period of games out there, Sea of Thieves STILL has that edge of being unique in the sense of ship/naval combat that no other game offers (Outside of Blazing Sails which is a very poor state player wise and doesn't capture SOT Naval very well with it's bare bones ship mechanics).

What I find funny and what I've been seeing a lot of the last few months + a year is the constant bringing up of Arena comments from multiple people on multiple platforms (Discord, Youtube, Forums Here, you name it).
Clearly the demand has revamped a lot. But I also see that RARE seems to be working with who they got left working on the game, and sacrificing a whole season for a gamemode that won't please most folks isn't the move.
They would need to hire a whole team (I think) for that to be a reality.

Honestly I main HG in this game lately, but I would be lying to you all if I pretended I cared so much that I want it back tomorrow, I literally couldn't care a lot if it got removed for good.

What I genuinely miss is Arena and the community that I was surrounded by that all vanished through out the years. Hourglass lacks so much in that aspect alone, it feels isolated and repetitive compared to what Arena once offered.

What old players? After the introduction of hotfix 3.3.2.1 on May 1, many old and loyal players who keep online for some reason got RB, without explanation of the reasons, and also with 0 points out of 12. RB is only on the WebSite, they can easily enter the game. BUT any attempt to reach out to support that something is broken stumbles upon template answers, "Individuals are not authorised to make new accounts if they have received a permanent ban. However, unlinking the accounts of other players, such as friends or family, from your machine and purchasing a new license for Sea of Thieves or an active Xbox Game Pass subscription should resolve your issue" they are offered to buy the game again, but then they say that this is a way to bypass the ban.
There is no acknowledgement of the breakdown, no support for old players who did not violate any rules, no solution to the problem. Will you even want to buy something in this game, or even enter it, if there is such an unfair attitude?

True, same happened to me, but company seems like doesn't want to pay attention to this issue.

  • @staja7345 Yeah, you got me there, I'm not sure what to tell you on that.

  • @veronik5682 What I wish that Rare would do is what BSG did with Tarkov. Make a separate game for SoT comp PVP. Heck, even BSG named theirs Arena.
If Rare hired a new team solely for the game, made the separate game called Arena or literally whatever, marketed it as the separate client push for players wanting only PVP and in a comp manner, then a MASSIVE resurgence would happen and Rare would basically get a ton of money from all the players that would purchase this "new" game.
The SoT PvP game would need to be updated weekly or monthly. All the problems would not affect the main game, because they would technically be separated.
BUT since cosmetics are linked to our accounts, they would transfer over between the two games. This would mean that all the new players coming for comp would still be incentivized to buy and play the main game if they wanted any of those cosmetics or titles and all of the Adventure mode players would have the option to go play the PvP game if Adventure mode was stale, down, or if they were bored.
A team dedicated to a SoT PvP game would be amazing. They could focus on brining a newer and better version of Arena back, consistently update Hourglass, put out more rewards, and hopefully constant updates overall would make players possibly come back in droves.
Make a BattlePass and add ranked play. Make it so that you can get ranked for solo sloop, sloop, brig, and galleon. So now, you can split the casuals into normal PvP mode and the sweats into ranked PvP mode, just like soooo many other games do. Add in some Island TDM and FFA modes and maybe have like a zombie mode but with skeletons or a Frenzy mode where it's 5 ships for Arena, but 5 Megs also are in the water attacking.
If Rare just spent the money on a new team and did this, they would see huge numbers again. I mean, many games have done this, I am just thinking of Tarkov as the most recent one that comes to mind, but look how popular it is now. Also, another one that comes to mind is CoD and Warzone. Two SEPERATE games, but still the same game... Most of the highest watched Twitch games are always fps comp games. People WANT to play and watch that stuff, but Rare would need a dedicated team to literally constantly be updating so it doesn't die off like the last 2 iterations of PvP they tried. If you want a PvP mode to work, the company HAS to stay up to date with it.
If Rare leaned into that comp market and made a separate game, they would stop seeing themselves in 1-2k region on days where no Twitch drops happen.
SO basically if Rare did this, we could have both Sea of Thieves and Sea of Thieves Battles on our PCs or consoles.

  • @thamb0
    You'll probably enjoy Wildgate.
I played it, it's pretty fun.

Definitely not a replacement for Sea of Thieves, but it fills that niche Arena did.

  • That sounds like a grandiose step for them to accomplish in which I see zero reality of that happening.
The developers treat the game as if it was their own personal game and make changes on how the developers feel, and not how the consumers (Player base) want it to be.

Also there is a game being made by some former players of this game, that is an Arena, similar to Blazing sails but less cartoony and more original to how Sea of Thieves plays. (Supposedly).

I can't remember the name on top of my head, but if more people stopped whining about an Arena comeback or theory crafted about how RARE should move forward with PvP modes that will never happen, they should simply support those guys over there who are genuinely putting in a difference into reality.

  • @veronik5682 1000% agree it's a pipe dream. Just saying what I wish, lol. It's been massively apparent they treat it as a personal game and not one for the community for a long time now. Hit the nail on the head.

If the developers treated this game how the "players" wanted the game to be, it would be an awful game.

    ist it awful enought yet?

If they added every single suggestion of course.
Yet when we ask for a more robust clan system for guilds that would actually help friends and players find new friends to play with that gets ignored.
Guilds are just bad imho, they genuinely offer nothing new outside of being able to share ships and that's it. A lot of players beg some namer just to be put in a guild so they can flex and take pics with rare sails and then dip.
There's ZERO sense of community in a guild and more so some face value system pretending to be one. Be honest about that.

Felt like they only brought it in the game to tick it off their bucket list whilst it's a completely a half baked feature, same for Partnered servers, exact same deal, same for a lot of stuff in the game that COULD be very good from people's ideas.
Hourglass same deal, cool feature but lack of updates and maintenance makes it surface level and boring.

Maybe I lost my patience with RARE lately and I don't see myself sticking to this game in the upcoming months to summer. NOT because I'm bored of the game, but more so frustrated of all the issues and half baked features that are left to rot.

It's actually quite amazing, having not played in 4 and a half years until a week and a half ago.
It takes them a while sure, but the game feels almost like a completely new game, with the same feel and vibe of the old game.
