PvP and practice map

  • Hourglass is a good pvp mode but it could be even better. I would like each battle to start with both boats facing each other, not one that is on an island and could collect gunpowder barrels. Secondly, it would be beneficial for the battle to take place in a private server or at least have an invisible dome to prevent other boats from seeing it. I would like a way to practice pvp with a friend. For example, Valorant has a special practice place. What would be super cool to add. A private practice server where two or more players (1v1-2v2, 3v3, 4v4) can spawn on an island from which they can quickly choose their battle resources and then by pressing a button that you are ready to fight, you can spawn normally like in hourglass in the middle of an ocean. I'll also leave you some pictures as examples from other well-known games (Pubg and Valorant). From Pubg I'm referring to how they can get resources (weapons in that game) which could also be implemented in private practice sessions. From Valorant, how they can group to form teams.

I'm still getting random 'Forbidden' errors, so here's a screenshot of my reply:

    1. hourglass is a tool not mode
    2. you do spawn while facing the other ship.
    3. it’s open world PvP

    Seems you just wanting arena

  • I like how whenever someone brings these ideas up in the forums its immediately shot down by people saying thats not how hg is meant to be but never ever saying its a bad ideas lol. I think this idea is the best option for whatever playstyle your looking at. It frees up adventure high sea ship spaces on servers making the servers more alive, removes some of the sweats from open world for the pve lords and gives the pvpers a fair place to practice or fight.

Another argument to this idea is that new mode means more maintanence for the devs but like, they made a whole private server for pve players and you get transferred to private servers when doing certain talltales (monkey island, pirate life) so clearly its not too much for the devs to handle. Its not like they ever update hg anyway so i dont see any issue here (and it won't break for 2 weeks everytime adventure gets an update).

I'll just never understand the people that say "this is actually how it was designed by the devs so its not a bad design choice" cmon guys be for real, changes is kinda the whole point of the live service part of the game.

  • @guildar9194 I feel you're misunderstanding my views on safer seas because i agree that safer seas should just be an extended version of the base game without the pvp aspect. I think i can speak for most people that no one likes running or chasing, its boring plain and simple, so i'd rather the people that don't want to interact with pvp off the pvpve servers to make room for more people who want to play that way. I don't think you should not be hindered to play this game just because you play in a different style (especially captaincy i have no idea why they removed that from ss).

Although i would be fine with all those penalties (i really don't need any more levels) as long as we get a good amount of supplies so we don't have to re buy 50 times a session without captaincy.

  • @guildar9194 I would like at least a possibility to go 1v1 with a friend. And yet I didn't understand why in hourglass other boats can intervene in your match. What is the logic.

The logic is that Hourglass is a tool to find open world PvP. Not private, guaranteed 1v1 matches.
And like normal open world PvP; a third party can jump in at any time.

A while ago, Arena used to happen on a separate server. Upon launching the game, you had the choice of Adventure, or Arena. Because 2% of a player's time was spent in Arena, the developers didn't think it was feasible to continue supporting the server, and Arena was shut down. Hourglass came later on, but because it's not on a private server, it takes place in Adventure, and as such, getting 3rd partied comes with the territory.

  • @europa4033 so instead they made safer seas where its 1 whole ship per server.

@Guildar9194 yeah bro, go back to making the same useless argument that you always use instead of actually responding to me

Yes indeed. The reason for this, is because a lot of newer players don't quite get the chances of obtaining new skills, or learning how to play the game outside of the Maiden Voyage (which is, eat a banana, repair your ship, and sail out). Safer Seas is a continuation of the tutorial. What's that big skull in the sky mean? How do I do this voyage? A weird sound happened and now a skeleton ship is attacking me, and so forth.
Not only is it a place for new players to understand the key core mechanics of the game, it's also perfect for families who have small children and they want to sail in peace, those who wish to do tall tales, fish, etc.

  • The thing about Safer Seas is that it's the same code and map as High Seas, meaning that you won't have to code specific settings all Safer Seas has is a few flags saying the content is unavailable.
Arena as far as I remember had the gamemode lobby on the inside of the non-marked location next to the Skeleton Alliance don't remember if the map was mostly around the shores of plenty, but I might be misremembering seeing Smuggler's Bay most of the time.
The boats had a different amount of supplies since they were designed for 30mins matches they needed to have enough supplies to be able last that match.
The game would spawn a chest which every boat was supposed to fight over, unfortunately, it was easier to just spawn camp a weaker boat and farm pirate kills.

Now you might ask why not just have hourglass give a free server for the fight?
You forget or failed to perceive that hourglass wasn't designed for duel matches it was designed as an invasion PvP system, that's why there's a multiplier if you're carrying treasure on your boat.
The duels are just a necessary byproduct for the lack of ships wanting to be invaded instead of invading.
You also have to ask what is going to happen after the match is over?
Are you going to have the server all by yourself now? Safer Seas without restrictions.
You merge with another server after the fight is over? Diving before being able to grab the flag or supplies or having the game feel janky after the match.

The idea of a Pirate vs Pirate mode would be interesting specially as a way to practice the Pirate vs Pirate combat that is usually janky and is won half the time by the guy that eats the most pineapples.

  • @europa4033 but can you make a mode here you can 1v1 a friend

Yeah, and have them help you level hourglass up.

  • @europa4033 not level your hourglass, just for fun
