Controller QoL Suggestions

  • 1). Customizable Item/Quest Radial. Allow for all players to customize the location of items on the radial. Kind of like how you can change where your emotes are in the emote radial. It would allow significant flexibility based on playstyle. Example: I don't need "food" in my wheel at all since I have food bound to a hot key.

2). Consolidated Radials. Currently, when entering the Item/Quest Radial on controller, there are already extensions for: Throwables, Quests, More. We're already in an effective "shift" mode by holding the Item/Quest Radial button anyways. So, allow for the addition of Emote Wheel and Pirate Chat wheel to the extension. Being able to just enter those sub-radials from a single radial button would free up buttons on the controller for a lot of players.

3). Expanded Item Radial options. This would really only work if you implemented the customizable Item/Quest Radial (or add a 3rd page). Give us an option to have Text Chat, Crouch Toggle, Auto Move Toggle, and all the other Toggles be options in the Item/Quest Radial. Again, this would free up buttons for a lot of controller players.

4). DECOUPLE Weapon Switch and Secondary Interact. PLEASE. For the love of God. This has been requested FOR YEARS by countless members of the community. Instead, you've just exacerbated the problem by making item crates wildly common and added a secondary interact directly to the mast. On the cramped sloop...it can make for a really bad time in the heat of battle. This would be made easier if the above options were implemented as buttons for a lot of players would be freed up.

  • Like any good ideas on this forum, this didn't get the attention it deserved. But I think these are all good suggestions and, especially, I will always stand behind the suggestion to decouple the weapon swap from secondary interact. If it has to be coupled by default, fine, but give players the freedom to choose different binds if they want. If they mess it up, there's always the option to reset binds.

  • I love this idea and it absolutely deserves a bump.

  • Spyglass sensitivity slider!!!!

  • I don't often come across posts where I'm 100% behind everything it says on here but absolutely yes to all of this.

Especially with the new controls (crouch, and switch darts), I no longer use pirate chat, text chat, emotes, or blow darts because I just don't have a button for them any more.

I'm curious to hear about other players' button layouts for controller. I can't be the only controller player who's just resigned themselves to not engage with certain aspects of the game. I have assigned, food, wood, bucket, bait, and throwables to quick draw. That leaves one button that I can either assign to crouch, change darts, pirate chat, text chat, or emote.

Everyone is going to have different priorities. My binds focus on things that aren't cardinal directions on the radials, or things that I use quite often. Wood and bucket aren't that hard to select from the radial for me, I have the muscle memory down. I reluctantly had to drop the pirate chat and just kept PTT, and I immediately got rid of the blow dart wheel (while it's easier than selecting from the equipment radial, it seemed redundant and I don't use the blow dart frequently outside of PvE).

    RB: Spyglass
    Left D-pad: PTT
    Up D-Pad: Throwables
    Right D-Pad: Food
    Down D-Pad: Emotes

I remapped page turns to LB and RB and, while it's not ideal, it doesn't clash at least. I may switch the Spyglass and Throwables at some point.

I keep saying it, and will do until they adopt it, but Rare needs to consider a shift-modifier system to add more binding options. They're already part-way there with the amount of options on the current radials.

A shift modifier would be HUGE for controller play. Even if it was something simple just to consolidate radials as I suggested. Love it.
