Can anything be done to make it so the captains and other NPCs cant get inside of walls, and if they do figure out a way to get the stuff that they drop to not get stuck in the wall, either by pushing the item out (either to the side or above) or having a "safe spawn" zone in the locations (table in the "kitchen" for the forts and the room above the treasure rooms for skele camp as examples) as I can imagine a lot of players have lost a lot of loot due to this bug

This kind of bug impacts any creature if you push them through geometry with your attacks. The other big offender is Graymarrow at the Fort of the Damned. I think if this was an easy fix it would have been done by now.
The best thing to do when this happens is leave the island completely; either your entire crew sails away, fire from a cannon outside of island range, or you all go to the ferry and return back at the same time. This will reset the island spawns and remove the enemies from the walls.
@quickhakker i just had this problem , at the sea fort i just killed the captian and the he got stuck in the wall and after he died the key dropped inside the wall , i couldn't access it , i tried to get inside the wall by using blunderbombs or using my sword etc. , nothing word , my last resort was using the new weapon added in the new update the harpoon gun , and it worked flawlessly and it was very easy.
LONG STORY SHORT : use the harpoon gun. ( from the new update).
