Consider adding High Seas megalodon hunting to Safer Seas

  • After making a previous post and getting a better understanding of what I think could be helpful, I think it would be awesome at some point to be able to hunt the megalodons in Safer Seas just like you currently can in High Seas.

Note that my suggestion is "Consider". I get that there are many decisions that go into a game and what to add or work on. I appreciate the consideration of this request, but leave it to the decision makers on whether this becomes something that they'd like to add.

    Happy sailing!

  • @WolfManbush shared a handy post that might help with hunting the new Megs without the use of a Guild Flag here https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/post/1980372

  • 'Your Miles May Vary' obviously but having a set point to target whilst doing other things might help.

First thing I would do when loading in is look around the outpost. There are a lot of situations where you might see one nearby from any of the outposts that you spawn into.

Another thing to try is to chill in open sea in one of the common areas for one to spawn. I've had quite a few spawn right in the area I was chilling at.

Think of it like hunting, you can go out there and try to find signs of one in common areas

or you can wait in an area they spawn in and see if one spawns near you

In safer seas you could even make a whole thing out of it with a crew and leave people in a few different spots and see if you can spot one that way.

I've been about half and half with mine. I'll use the emissary once in a while but I prefer a more organic encounter so I'll keep an eye out while I sail around.

A good multitask situation would be to do fishing voyages and then keep an eye out around you as you do those.

Plunder is a really good outpost to check, there are 3 hot spots around it.

  • Rare's intention for Safer Seas is that is won't have features that are not in High Seas; so if a way to hunt the new Megs would be added to Safer Seas it would also be in High Seas and that would defeat the purpose of getting to HC grade 5 ... plus it would be a way to possibly find a high level Hunter's Call crew without having to raise Reaper and get to grade 5 - as they're bound to be found at or on their way to the new Meg.

Perhaps adding the ability to raise and get to grade 5 in Hunter's Call without any of the other benefits (commendations, gold multiplier) other than the spotting of one of the new Megs on the map ? Not sure how I would feel about being able to get multiple uncontested ones in a row though.

If a new Meg can be found by sailing for (let's say) an average of 45 minutes on the most likely places they hang out, such an addition is not necessary IMHO - it's Safer Seas - not Easier Seas

  • @lem0n-curry @WolfManbush @Look-Behind-You - Thank you! You are great and I will look into doing these suggestions.

I liked reading the full thread here, too: https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/post/1980372

That helps with the perspective. Upon reflection, it appears that Safer Seas does have a lot of the content and the mentions about families playing with kids in SS feels like a better fit. I somehow got onto the train of SS has less stuff, but if I look at the bigger picture, SS has a ton of content.

I was so focused on what it doesn't have that I missed what it does have.

You can always do a mix.

You don't have to always have access to limited content and you don't have to always deal with the stress of high seas.

You could dedicate 1/4 of the time to high seas and if you go on a good run you can extend it to half, as long as you don't stack loot you won't lose much.

And if high seas gets stressful you can just spend more time in safer seas.

You could get to grade 5 hunter emissary pretty quickly and then you can just dive around looking for a meg that is out of high traffic areas.

Even if it's once or a couple of times a week for a one or two objectives it could get you more comfortable in high seas, or it might just make it feel like you are experiencing more of the game without daily stress.

  • It could be something simple that you would have to go out of your way for ie the megs show on the big map at Port Merrick. Its a fun Easter egg on high seas, but super useful on safer seas. Its right next to the hunters call emissary which could be the lore reason why it shows there but not on the Fort maps.

  • I'd be interested in updates about your meg hunting if you're interested as time goes on. You are welcome to send me a message about how it's going as you play more.

I'll help with strats and ideas in any way I can if there is an issue.

I really enjoy when casual players start getting into meg hunting so it's no bother to me at all. I wanna see you and your kids stick with the content.

That applies to whatever gets released the rest of the season as well.
