Attention Devs And Year 1 Pirate Legends !

    I'm just returning to the game a few weeks ago after a few years away off and on and I just wanna add my 2 cents and emphasize how long it took year 1 pirates to fulfill the long grind to achieve pirate legend only for that title of pirate legend to then be completely diminished and ultimately ruined overall now considering that its now so easily obtained (and sure we received some items for achieving it the first year) But Now those items are being completely outshined by other items The Curse of the Ghost for example which I think would be a great year 1 pirate legend item to give to year 1s considering the lore of the game and should be an item us year 1 pirate legends should had gotten automatically when it released or be able to obtain from easier means than doing 100 levels EXTRA of PVP most of us year ones have played soo much at this point and done that already a million times over and people who are just now starting to play in the last couple years have been able to obtain things way easier. And considering how easy it is now i think we're not being completely being compensated the way I think we could be and its upsetting and thats coming from every year one pirate legend I know that I've talked to about it. I think Rare could consider something like making the Curse of the ghost an automatic obtainable item for those who put in our blood sweat and tears into the game at a time when to become pirate legends took many months of grinding to do so, it was no easy feat. Even a decreased amount of time needed to acquire the Ghostly curse with the hourglass considering from what I've heard most people got the curses from double experience gains during weekend events and such and now it takes way longer than it used to for both the skelly curse and the guardian curse but why is pirate legend so easily obtained? * as I go on and say below in another comment you Could even maybe maake it a different color or something? idk lol just an idea Anyways Thank you for you time reading I just really hope this reaches the right people. mushhh love!

    *I just think this would be a very appropriate way of showing us thanks for playing the game from the beginning and achieving what most didn't at the time. by at least decreasing the amount needed to acquire it, considering even in the lore it makes sense for the original legends who sunk many hundreds/ even thousands of hours into the game to obtain what we achieved then, to have the ghostly curse as well that all the other NPC pirate legends in the hideout have. It honestly bums me out because it was very much so harder then than it is now to achieve that feat as I stated and anyone whos played since then and achieved that knows it. and I feel as if RARE would wanna honor us OG Pirate legends by giving it to us because I think its rightfully ours in a lore kinda way on its own anyways, or you could give us our own ghostly curse color to define us to at least,I think it would be cool, as well as giving us access into the new doorway in the hideout. again just an idea.

    Getting exclusive year 1 items is enough. You can't compare them with the PvP curses.

    The exclusive items will remain exclusive while the curses will become more and more common.

    Way too much elitism in SoT.

    What started out as people flexing on each other over cosmetics/titles/whatever led into full on social team sport where groups of regs consistently try to get each other nerfed, or turned into the "toxic" ones. On and on and on.

    Game woulda been better off if a lot of that got nipped in the bud earlier on by embracing the shared organic experience in the game, rather than turning it all into a contrived scenario where people act like they are better than others while status chasing.

    All I understand from this post is:

    "I want freebies each couple of years because I was here before you"

    You already got your "thank you" from Rare once. Everything above that is pure entitlement and greed. So nope, you shouldn't get anything else.

    You got one of the best and rarest shipsets/cosmetic sets ingame and you think you havent been compensated enough?

    I dont think anything should be awarded for past grinds.
    At least not for anything that has been changed 6 years ago.

    As a Y1 PL myself I disagree with this. I've already got some nice stuff as a thank you for my dedication. Anything else is just greed. (I mean, it was nice of them just to even give us anything at all.)

    If anything, I would actually love to just see the Golden Legend set completed. But I'm good with what I have now all the same.

    I’m happy with my Gold M eyepatch/day 1 patch and Captain bones sword.

    Only 1 thing I wish for. A nice hat to go along with it. Golden “Dashing Tricorne” hat would be nice. I be a happy camper.

    (And that dang Shrouded Ghost title)

    For me this is the best blunderbuss next to Ferryman and Athena's(arena).

    I also think it's bad that Rare made many things so easy without rewarding players in any way for having managed to complete them while they were difficult, but that stops mattering very quickly. If they are to repair these distortions caused by changes, everyone will have to receive something for some "injustice". It is better to just move on.

    I'm not against the idea of ​​rewarding first-year players, perhaps on a ten-year anniversary of the game as a form of tribute, but even so, this is definitely not necessary and if it were done it should be through a new skin or title, not facilitating grinds or company commendations.

    @lleorb you get it and I agree some things its like " you cant please everyone" but this specifically I think its understandable. Remember when ship skins were 40k gold and it took days to get to that point to where you could just afford a hull? I'm not even mentioning a full set XD because i do lol and I knows you do too. I never said I didn't appreciate the rewards, and with all do respect because I do appreciate the ship reward and i do like it but yes I do think the ghostly curse the pirate legends in the hideout is cooler than the ship lol. we all use differet ship types so we arent always going to use it haha <3. I just wish they would realize that people worked long and hard to complete pirate legend then and It wasnt easy at all and then everything was made easier to obtain and it just tarnished what we worked so hard for on the game we love. And as far as the curse, Ive just always felt like the Ghostly curse all the pirate legend hideout NPC's had was a pirate legend thing to begin with even before it was an obtainable item for players ive always thought that we shouldve gotten it when we hit pirate legend back then when it was just 3 factions and 1 skull fort that 4 ships fought 5 hours to get XD and thats all im getting at and the ghostly curse just really goes with the pirate legend lore especially for us year 1 people who works long and hard for it all to just become super simple to obtain the ghostly curse kinda goes with the lore of the game.     They really don't give out many Tricorns do they?
    The only alternatives off the top of my head would be the Disgraced Gold Hoarder & Servant of the Flame hats.

    Except the Ghost Curse is it's own difficult grind. Why should you be given a thing that others have to grind out now in a thing that can arguably be just as tedious?

    You're right. They do know that the early supporters helped to shape the game as we know it now. And their thanks was the Golden Legend cosmetics. We can (and should) be thankful that they did anything at all to help us show our dedication within the game.

    Again, they do indeed know how much more difficult it was for us in comparison to now. Which, again, is why we received our Golden Legend cosmetics. And I know at least for myself that at best the only thing I could ask for at this point (and this is a hard maybe) would be for them to complete the set. Not to make light of another players' journey through Hourglass by handing out something they had to work hard at just because someone such as yourself feels some sort of slighted about it. But to the point of this, asking for more on top of something that you would (and did) do willingly and without promise of extra goodies is indeed a tad greedy.

    It is a great game! But they didn't owe us anything then just as they don't owe us anything now. We played because we wanted to and not because we felt anything could/would/should be owed to us at any point in time. And the fact that they did do something is already a fair act of generosity on their part. I personally thank them for it and continue to play on happy with what I have thankful for their decision to do anything for us at all.

    But this is simply all just food for thought. I'm not trying to dissuade you from your goal. Just giving an alternative viewpoint from a fellow Y1 PL.

    @badger Hey there ;) , I'm not going to put as much effort into this response because its not that deep and I'm not here for contentions. I'm sorry you feel that way about me personally though! Thats a little ridiculous. This message was originally meant for Rare anyways Badger. This message was sent to support then I was very kindly and supportively told by support to post it on the forums and see what people thought of it and so that's what I did and I basically copy posted what I typed them personally. I guess they just wanted to feed me to the sharks haha. I do wanna mention though that I'm not necessarily stuck on saying use the same exact color. I had proposed a ghostly curse that would be of the same style but of a different colors from the hourglass ones. I just only thought the ghostly curse shouldve had always been in the game. also quit acting like this game was free, I preordered the game which makes it also an investment with both time and money, so I cant understand what you mean when you say something like " be thankful that they did anything at all to help show dedication within the game." No foul at Rare.. for anything because I appreciate and have been around rare for many years and they are a great company , I just only thought the ghostly curse should had always been in the game lore considered. But just to make my point to you, When you make a purchase of a game in the form of a pre order which is an investment and that said game continues to grow sometimes creators of that game/investment will toss you a bit of something as a continued thank you for tenure on said game as a sign of good faith even if they have done it once before.     There were no 'sly personal attacks'. There were no attacks made. I only stated what I said above now in this post as well about what greed is. And again, I never said that it was done with malicious intent about or towards yourself. The idea is fine about maybe working in a color variant about specific to Y1 PLs. Do I find it needed? No I do not. But I'm not opposed to it either. Thus the comment of 'I'm not trying to dissuade'. The only point I was trying to make is that it shouldn't be the same one we have at current as that is tied to another grind and we would not want to make light of their trials to attain it. That was all.

    But as you said, it seems that a proper civil discourse is something that will likely be unable to be attained since you opted to come at me swinging for simply sharing information and an opinion and took them as some sort of personal attack, so I will bid you fair seas as well. Cheers.

    Yea, glad you acknowledge that support was sane enough to properly do their job, and send you to the forum, to make a freebie request post, and see what people think about it. Absolutely spot on.

    You didn't mention this regarding colors anywhere in the OP. Even if you did though, it would still scream of asking for continuous special treatment.

    So what? You already got thanked for your trust. Actually, let me give you a perfect analogy:

    My friend asks me to lend him some cash, because he could really need it at that time. He pays me back, and very often extra, or shows whatever appreciation with the given opportunity.

    Do you know how it would look if I kept reminding him every couple of years what I did, and ask for more? LAAAAAME. And greedy.

    And if I was him, I would def do my best to distance myself from such a person. Just a heads up, how most people likely perceive this "innocent suggestion". Nothing personal ;)

    If Rare were to retroactively give people stuff just for being there at a certain point in time (that didn't exist at the time), then why not just give everyone that played Release Day EVERYTHING currently in existence and everything that ever might exist?

    What about those of us that played BEFORE release? Do we get everything that ever existed and ever will exist...plus more?

    What about the people who played Release Day but then didn't and just came back after a few years (like you mentioned you have)? Do those people get EVERYTHING or just some things?

    Where is the cut-off?

    The cut-off is, you earned what you earned from playing from when you played.

    You don't get dibs on anything released after the fact because you feel you are somehow entitled to it.

    With that, I'll be dropping anchor here.
