Leave crew/Join Crew

  • This has been something that I have been thinking about for a long while, the ability to "leave crews" and "join crews" a perfect option to allow even better playing, and potentially longer play sessions, this can be made available on safer seas as well or be tweaked to work on safer seas without doing too much work.

Leave crew: This can be done at any time by any non captain player (the person who set up the ship for everyone else) and can only be done on outposts at the shipwright, by leaving the crew you have to select a new ship before you can do pretty much anything else, this includes leaving the isle and selling things, note leaving a crew isn't required to join a new crew directly this is only really done if you need to resize your ship either to accommodate more people or because your ship is too big (the main reason why I feel it should be available in safer seas)

Join crew: This can be done from any pirate ship providing the ship has enough spaces in the crew and also if the crew in question is accepting more members (this can be an option when you are setting sail, either in the same way you do alliances or by selecting "open" when you are setting up (or both if the players change their minds)) while joining crew and joining alliance might seem similar it has the added advantage of not being able to do friendly fire therefore making it easier to play with randos that are actually nice to play with

  • What?
You can already do these things...you just described it what is already a thing. So what is being asked here?

  • @quickhakker I totally agree. Currently, it’s a mystery what will happen when starting session. How amazing would it be to have a waiting to join a crew queue. For those who don’t want it to randomize who will captain the ship.

  • @burnbacon how do you do it then? like if im sailing a full brig and want to downsize to a sloop without save quitting how do i do that? and as for joining someone else if i see another solo slooper how do i do it?

  • @quickhakker

if im sailing a full brig and want to downsize to a sloop without save quitting how do i do that?

You never mentioned this in your original post.

  • @quickhakker

Ok So this whole post is just: "I want to down size my ship without quitting"

Without quitting, not possible. But you shouldnt be able to up or down size a ship in an active server due to (Server Caps) if the number of players/ships has already been reached. How would they be able to Upsize?

I rather see them, Offer to up/downsize a ship but they are forced to switch servers, and no supplies transfer.

  • The only way to leave your current crew and start a new one is going to be exiting to the main menu.

Being able to do it in the game is going to be a problem because:

    1. The servers can only support 6 crews, so splitting a crew on a full server isn't going to be possible.
    2. This would make it incredibly easy to create Alliance servers, which Rare is not too keen on even though they don't actively work to prevent them.

If you want to join an existing crew, you can just get an invite.

  • @burnbacon its more than that, its also joining in on another crew say for example you and I are solo slooping on the same server, we meet and instead of having to deal with 2 ships and 2 loads of treasure (cause even if we alliance up we only get ~50% of the stuff from the other person) one of us can go "im going to join your crew" and bish bash bosh sorted, and if part of the upsize/downsize of the ship requires you to scuttle to a different server so be it, just feels as though it would be quicker than quitting out changing ship and rejoining (although the upsize/downsize on safer seas wouldnt need to change server cause thats capped at 4 and unless they have specific server banks for safer with sub servers for different ship sizes then it should be easy to do)

  • @d3adst1ck if i met you on the high seas without you sending me a FR how would i join your crew?

  • @quickhakker Would you want people randomly joining your crew without you inviting them first?

  • @d3adst1ck and thats why i would have it so that its on by default on open crew and you have to accept in the my crew section
