"Gaming Features Not Available" In Game Bar Still Not Fixed (Steam Version)

  • It's almost one year since I first reported this issue but Game Bar still doesn't recognise the Steam version of the game, meaning that Gaming Features do not work.

Though others have found workarounds, I am not satisfied as they aren't explicitly safe to do. I'm not risking a 7 years old account to do them!

This affects LFG, Game Capture, and other functions that were working prior to 21st March 2024. While other solutions now exist for Game Capture (such as Steam's own built in Game DVR), I found Game Bar to be far better in terms of quality and ease of sharing.

At the time when I first reported it, I did extensive testing and ruled out it being caused by EAC EOS. Since then, I have only discovered two games (Balatro and Slay The Spire) that do not support Game Bar on Steam and, for both, Game Bar will give a clear notification stating so - something that it doesn't do for Sea of Thieves. Which leads me to believe the lack of support (which is strange for a Microsoft title anyway) is unintentional. Further, it still has the option to manually say it's a game but it doesn't stick - as I detailed in the original thread.

For awhile, I had switched back to the MS Store version of the game as that seemed to work fine with Game Bar, but a few months later it started being inconsistent. You needed to tab out of the game and back in for it to work correctly and for the game recording to actually start in the background.

Why do I care about this so much? Simply put, clips are essential for reporting in Sea of Thieves. If you come across an issue with another player, you have to provide evidence.
