Greetings, everyone. I have been contemplating a matter that has intrigued me since the introduction of the Burning Blade. While it is a new ship, it is not directly available to players, as it is merely part of a world event. This led me to wonder: What existing ship design in the game would be well-suited for player acquisition? Specifically, I recently came across a ship from the "Pirate’s Life" Tall Tale, and I was quite impressed by its design—more so than the Galleon, in my honest opinion. I believe that with some adjustments, it could be a fantastic addition to Sea of Thieves.
Now, let’s explore how this ship might fit into the game without disrupting its balance:
Ship Size
The ship should not exceed the size of the Galleon, in order to accommodate a total of four players. Additionally, it should be narrower than the Galleon for better maneuverability.
Speed
The ship should either match the Galleon’s speed or be slightly slower due to fewer sails. If the ship is slower than the Galleon, it should be better armored to ensure it can hold its own in combat.
Cannons
The ship would feature four cannons on each side. If we opt for a slower speed, the ship should have an additional set of cannons to make up for its lack of agility.
Decks
The ship should feature three decks, similar to the Galleon:
Bottom deck: This level would be dedicated to repairs, with supply barrels (for wood, food, or both), as well as the ship's kitchen area.
Second (gundeck): This deck would contain only the cannons and cannonball barrels.
Top deck: The open area for players to move around freely, with four stairways leading to the wheel and the forecastle. The forecastle area would house the player customization chests, and the forecastle balcony would include two grapple guns. The top deck would also feature two ladders, similar to the Galleon, for easy access to the ship.
Captain’s Quarters
The interior of the top deck would house the captain's quarters, which includes the map and quest table, a bed, the captain’s chair, a pet cage, and a chest for customization. There would be two entry points: one from the deck and one from the rowboat.
Crow’s Nest
The crow’s nest would remain in its current position, as it provides elevated visibility. Access to the crow’s nest would be via a rope ladder attached to the middle mast.
Ship’s Wheel
Since the ship is similar in size to the Galleon, but likely has advantages such as additional cannons, its wheel should have a slower turn rate compared to the Galleon’s, offering a greater turning speed when fully rotated.
Anchor
Given that this ship is slower and approximately the same size as the Galleon, one advantage could be a capstan that requires only three players to lift the anchor. This would allow the crew to lift the anchor faster and give the ship a slight speed boost in a critical moment.
Gold Cost
In my opinion, this ship should be considered an upgrade to the Galleon, with both advantages and drawbacks. To make it an achievable goal for players, the cost should be between 900,000 and 1,100,000 gold. This would allow players to work towards obtaining it while still feeling like a significant achievement.!
