I'm not even sure if crosshair was ever a bannable offence in the past, but more so a grey area where it was mere impossible to enforce say someone using a monitor crosshair, I think this is why after 7 years they decided to officially allow it with a caveat. (14th of Feb)
Some 3rd party software could trigger the Anti-Cheat and hence result in a ban which will be a lot harder to prove your innocence. For example ESP having a built in crosshair is not a good idea since it doubles down as being a cheating suite outside of the crosshair feature..
But I'm guessing software like Crosshair X is perfectly fine, Monitor build in crosshairs etc...
I know at least in the competitive community in the past it was an open secret that most players did use crosshairs but never wanted to admit it, but now everyone that uses it can breathe a lot easier due to this announcement:.
