Outpost Taken Over Event

  • With Flameheart back in the game, I think there should be more to than the Burning Blade being around the map. Lorewise, I'm assuming the burning blade is terrorizing around the map either with skellies or players.

Imagine if as a world event an outpost gets taken over by either skeletons, phantoms, ocean crawlers, or a ghost fleet.

    Like Golden Sands, but hardcore.

The outpost would have no inhabitants and the tavern would be boarded up (inhabitants are sheltering in there).

Players would have to defeat waves. Perhaps waves of ghost ships and then need to go on the island to do waves of skellies, phantoms, etc.

Loot would be in the tavern once completed as the inhabitants have brought their best items inside to protect them. It would be similar to a FoF loot wise but more varied.

Imagine finally finding a wood crate delivery quest only to find out the Merchant Alliance representative is in a locked tavern ... and the take-down of the waves of skellies and ships takes a bit and the quest expires ...

    Very specific and fair concern.

But I think it could work.

If you wait around with your quest and then that island gets taken over, you need to clear it. Plan your voyages for the unexpected and all that.

If it happens right in front of you as you are pulling up...yeah that sucks lol

Still a very specific reason for the event to not be created :)

  • @lem0n-curry yeah this is cool. This would be awesome

  • I do not agree with any incidents occurring at the trading post, as it would make it difficult to carry out many tasks.
This is a place for selling things.

  • While I like the idea itself, I have to agree with @Lem0n-Curry and @MR-SPX-SS here.

If you'd implement an event that un-favors one faction (Merchants in this example), you'd have to create such events for the rest of the companies, and keep them in an even rotation, otherwise it's just plain unfair towards Merchants. There is a decent amount of players that just do delivery voyages.

And it's not just about crate delivery. Imagine having to fight with waves of skellies/phantoms, and at the same time having to feed animals you've brought with yourself, not to die out. Honestly, I can't see any Merchant oriented player getting behind this.

  • In year one they had an event (cursed sails) that did this on rotation for the different regions, while lore wise it was cool iirc it was received as too restrictive

There were notifications on the outposts and regonial skeleton fleets (with possibly regional rewards) but there was no effect around the gameplay on the outposts.

  • @lem0n-curry technically there was because back in those days not all cosmetics where for purchase at all outposts. And the outpost stores where closed i am not 100% sure if the factions (gh, ma, OoS) also shutdown their business.

I might be getting this confused with a different similar event where the shops shutdown on rotation

I think you are confused - NPC removal (either factions or shopskeepers) would have needed an update every 4 hours. Perhaps it was suggested or tested but decided against it ? Beware of NDA of 6+ year old information though 😁.

There was a post or something that mentioned if the region was under attack IIRC, but to be honest I didn't have much time for shopping during the event 😁 other than getting the sails.
