Got SoT five days ago and now have 35 hours!

  • I'm guttered I didn't know about this game before now! Coming from Eve Online and Escape from Tarkov I needed a chill game and I think I just found my favourite game since the early 2000's (I'm 43)!!!!

Excellent game, lots to do, great atmosphere, really good sound, nice graphics/ style. Really like the customisation, enjoy safer seas and high seas. Playing solo and the content is still really well balanced.

Sailing through volcano eruptions and getting hit by debris, navigating through storms being struck by lightening, skeleton ships popping up for fights, trying not to crash into rocks and islands in think fog... Utterly amazing.

I cannot say enough good things about this game.

  • @nerdgeek welcome to the seas and I’m glad you’re enjoying it. There’s a big update on the horizon starting Feb 20th so you joined just in time!

    Good luck out there pirate!

  • A lot of very different ways to enjoy this experience but there is nothing like playing solo.

A lot of games/sandboxes leaning heavily into roleplay or shooter but SoT is truly as close to an adventure experience as people can find in gaming. Nothing creates more examples of that than solo organic play, where whatever happens, happens. An important step towards something that will eventually be rewarding.

You're gonna get frustrated, you're gonna hear a lot of things about the game, at some point it's going to be less exciting as things are less new. There is nothing as sweet as inexperience while on new adventures.

That's where it requires more maintenance for a quality experience.

Adapt as things change, not because you have to, because it will allow you to enjoy what you do.

The experiences and opinions of others are not yours to maintain. You can have fun even if others around you are not. You can be alright with what exists even if others aren't. It's a game and escapism, you get to enjoy that as long as you can work it out for yourself.

What goes around comes around and it takes everyone to make it whole.
Everyone you encounter is a part of the ecosystem that you benefit from. Their gameplay is essential for this to work out alright. Everything that is rewarding to you exists because we aren't alone as solos. The randomness, the risk, the thrill, the sense of accomplishment. This all exists because other people are involved. That even includes brigantines.

Right now it's new and exciting but it won't always be, but you are always in a situation to make the best out of your sessions. You do not control outcome but you always control your approach.

Welcome, and I hope you enjoy many more adventures, here and outside of here.

Let all admire this pirate in the joy they see discovering. deep breath good memories of our first times.

  • @nerdgeek

I was like that when I started in March 2023 as well. This game is the first thing in a loooong time that kept me up until 4am like a crazy person. I’m much more reasonable about my playtime now. 2200 hours later, though.

Glad to see you are enjoying the game so far! If you plan on being a hardcore fan of the game, you could try Sea of Thieves Insider.

  • Welcome! @nerdgeek
As an older pirate myself (my gametag should be a hint), i can say the pace and action in SoT is just about perfect. Not too stressful, but still you have to fight for your loot at times.

Also its really refreshing to hear a new pirate who actually likes the game, and not just complains about things. Sadly you will hear a lot of complaining here, but just ignore them and enjoy the game as you want.

Although solo playing is fun, a do recommend you find a crew as SoT really shines with a good crew. Plenty of people on the official discord, and you might even find friends here aswell.
