Inactivity timeout

  • How about not getting booted from the server when you're ACTIVELY browsing a store or the menu, particularly when in a private Safer Seas server?

I've been booted several times when I'm in the middle of shopping from an outpost store.
Just this minute: on safer seas in the middle of a Tall Tale, get a commendation, go trawling through the mess of a commendation/accolades menu to check it out and any linked commendations. Get booted out of the private server and have to restart the tall tale.

While we're at it, can we please have recently awarded commendations highlighted, and recently unlocked store items highlighted?
Several times I've got a commendation, and wondered what if anything it has unlocked in the store.

  • Your title says “inactivity timeout” but then you say you got booted while you were actively browsing the emporium.

    So which one is it??

  • @xdragonman15558 Browsing store menus doesn't count as activity because your character isn't moving.

I understand why they do this though, because otherwise players would just open up a store and be able to idle forever.

  • @theseraphor happened to me many times before. I’m not sure what the fix is, but it could be bad if the whole server was somehow shopping or inactive. Then the sea would be dead. Kicking needs to occur to keep the servers lively. Maybe a count down for shopping?

  • Spend to much shopping XD

    But that is odd.

  • It's been like that for a while—best to click off and move occasionally. The warning in the top left lets you know before you're kicked. It’s likely intentional to prevent idling—no one should be shopping for 20+ minutes!

It’d be nice if shops worked like the Pirate Emporium, letting you browse in the menu without taking up server space meant for players who want to play, not shop.

  • @burnbacon it kinda links to my second point.
I haven't been playing long, and my outpost stores are still mostly covered in locks and chains.
When I get a new commendation that I suspect might have unlocked something, but don't know for sure, I have to trawl through all the outpost stores, reading all the item descriptions for sonething that might indicate it required a comm to unlock.

Having a little (NEW) flag on recently unlocked items and comms you haven't viewed yet would be useful.

  • AGREED!!! this same thing happened to me a few times before i realized what it was. i was LITERALLY in the middle of shopping. i clicked "buy" and AS it was "counting my coins" it booted me off due to inactivity. i LIKE to look thru the catalog slowly. i like all the lore and content that SoT has and like to read everything and really look at the images. i like to take my time deciding what i want and making note of things that stick out to me that i might want to come back and look out later. i figured that since i was scrolling around in the menues, that it would'nt count as "inactive". i was LITERALLY active! it actually makes me never want to look at the shop because i don't want to risk getting booted if i'm in the middle of something... which is annoying because there's SO much in the menus that i'd like to keep track of. i don't like to feel rushed. and i don't like having to go back in and out of the menus just to keep from being booted. it takes too long to remember where i left off... if they're that dang concerned about inactivity, they should make EVERY menu, shop thing, and whatever all available offline on their website. if i could peruse stuff at my leisure without even being in the game, then i'd just do that. annoying, but i'd do it. i hate having to fully logoff and start over when i'm in the middle of playing. i get why they do it, but it's prolly my least favorite aspect of SoT. and while we're on the topic, i wish the store had a "Wishlist" where i could pin items that i want to remember... anyway, i agree with you and feel ur pain.
