I'm approaching 100 hours of the game and I'd like to defeat my first ancient skeleton. I know that they can randomly appear on any island except outposts and seaposts, but are there any good strategies or ways I can increase the chances of finding one?

Other than being on land a lot, not really.
Pretty sure they've nerfed them in the last couple of years too, as far as value goes. Used to see them range from 100ish- 500+.
Just about every one I've seen in the last 2 years and have seen others get is around 130ish, give or take a bit.
Imo always play how you wanna play. That kind of RNG is not fun because it is the kind of RNG where you can go years without results.
I've seen them pop everywhere but the only place I'd say might have a slightly higher spawn rate would be FotD, that's been a spot where people get them somewhat consistently. That could be just a coincidence or it could have something to do with time spent there, others players often being around, could be anything really.
@phantomhawk7590 its complete RNG i have seen multiple spawn in the same session and then go hundreds of hours without seeing a single one
@phantomhawk7590 For me they spawned on Fortresses (skelly forts not Sea Forts) most of the time, while tdming with bunch of friends. I think they can spawn on every island, just need to spend a lot of time there and be lucky.
