[SUGGESTION] Skeleton Ship Variant: Human Pirate/Privateer Ships

  • Hello everyone, I wanted to share with you a potential suggestion on the game, that is the existence of a Human NPC Ship that you can fight and sink with.

The Ship works similarly to a Skeleton ship, but with the inhabitants being human npcs, the ship wheels being interactable and their masts can be broken down.

    • The Human NPCs act similarly to Phantoms where they can use swords, blunderbuss and pistols and can also do a player's sword lunge that locks on to players.
    • When they die, they have a similar animation of their spirit flying away as a player do (but are not interactable and they quickly disappear). They also have a unique respawn animation of jumping back to life through the Ferry of the Damned door.
    • Otherwise, they interact with the ship the same way a skeleton will do - they fight back against players, they will use cannons and they will repair the ship but will not bucket the water.

With this suggestion, it should help liven up the artificial environment of the game by having actual living human beings other than the merfolk and the siren/fishmens actually doing something similar to the player.

Moreover this could help pave a way for new stories to unfold especially given how most of what has happened surrounds battles between human pirates with either skeletons, ghosts and sirenfolks.

A brand-new story with a brand-new villain that is a complete opposite of Flameheart who craves chaos and the Pirate lord who loves mischief.

One that is of absolute order, not for mere gold or exploration but for power not for any one person, but for one and one great country/company alone to expand, conquer and colonize the Sea of Thieves "for the greater good".

Maybe the rise of The Great East Company and their endless army of Privateers against the pirates, perhaps?

Well, share your thoughts on this idea.

  • Sounds nice.

But lore wise, we are suppose to be against the skeletons who have cursed the seas with their presence. Not other npc pirates who are just out for adventure.

How would you explain them magically appearing? Skeleton ships appear from the sea. What of npc pirates?
But that opens a whole new topic on pvp :/

Good question. I do have at least 2 ways in mind to spawn them.

    • The first one is to have the standard rising from the sea animation just like how a regular skeleton ship would do. Lore-wise it won't be a problem as from Season 10 onward we the player character has the power to actually dive and resurface into either our destination or to invade an enemy ship (through hourglass battle), and we can simply explain this as the NPC Pirates are trying to invade us.

I mean just because the seas are cursed by skeletons doesn't mean all pirates are united to help one another. Some could be aligned to Flameheart while others might be in it for themselves. They might be in it for adventure, or they are in it for the mischief or your gold. If we are free to steal and sink another player's loot and ship, why can't NPC Pirates?

    • The second one is to have them either coming out of a portal (like ghost ships or The Black Pearl when they are leaving the sea of thieves), or have them spawn through a heavy fog/cloud. This would probably fit Privateer ships from my suggested story more by them actually invading from the outside into the Sea of Thieves, and just by chance spawn next to us to "legally" confiscate our goods.
