Grapple gun should be a "Traversal tool" instead of a boarding tool.

  • Suggestion - Grapple gun must be added to the item radial menu and must only be used as a traversal tool and not a tool used for boarding player ships. By doing so players can only use the grapple gun to travel large distances on islands and to board skeleton ships. This would allow the tool to be in the item radial menu and not take up a weapon slot. This will make lives of solo sloopers a lot easier especially now that the range of the "Tool" has been extended, it's an unfair advantage for the larger crews.

  • It's best as a multi tool. Boarding, climbing on islands etc. Do what you want with it.

In all my time battling other boats I have only seen it used by other players about 5 times and it didn't seem overkill. Other weapons seems more popular.

  • @captdirtyoar I see what you are talking about, but based on my experience people keep getting on both ladders using the grapple gun, no matter how much to try to keep the boarders away they just grapple from the sea. Due to this you have to be ladder guarding constantly and as a solo that takes the valuable time you could have spent repairing, bailing water, etc. That could be the difference between winning and sinking.

I only solo sometimes, but when I do rarely let boats get close to me when solo. That's the best defense.

When solo I normally try to get a couple kegs, heaps of firebombs and if lucky wind shell. Having those on your boat when being chased can help fend other boats off.

I normally jump off my boat when going past forts and use the cannons on the islands against those chasing me.

  • @captdirtyoar Yeah buddy! That's good defence but that's not always the case unfortunately. The battles can take place anywhere on the seas. Bloodthirsty pirates always find a way to board and this "tool" is a big help for them :(

  • Why can’t it be both?

  • @burnbacon I have stated my reason buddy!

  • Tbh the grapple gun's quite balanced as it is now. You need to remember that you still sacrificed a weapon slot which limits your boarding capabilities even with a group.

  • Remember, you can also use traps to get a huge upper hand on anyone boarding when you’re not looking.

  • 100% agree. it is almost a mandatory tool since its mostly for traversal. i am ready to quit over the lack of quality of life changes to this game honestly. i have always been a sword lord. i NEED my sword. as i mostly pve its just mandatory for killing pve threats. then a gun to deal with ranged enemies. grapple cant kill a skeleton on a cannon at long range..... but i got sword and grapple or sword and sniper. im getting beyond annoyed at having to constantly swap. and even if i swap enroute to a place then when i arrive and am about to get onto the island..... skeleton canoning me... ugh. and skeletons spawning with kegs? sure i can harpoon the key from them but thats not the same as blowing it up. it just means i now have a higher chance of getting hit while holding the keg i would have shot instead.

also the weapon delay sucks. even as a tool the weapon draw delay ruins it.

a PERFECT example... Digging treasure up in the devils roar. if a geyser goes off how COOL would it feel to whip out the grapple and avoid that fall damage? but because you have to wait for the weapon draw thats not just going to happen...... but this just brings up the larger conversation of the TROLL design of geysers.... they literally only spawn around and under you its coded to never let you dig when its geyser time. its lame

  • @burnbacon ok. harpoon head shots should deal 80 damage then. also have a detach option so if you double tap fire in rapid succession it turns it into a projectile that can blow up kegs. because its a mandatory travel tool but a useless for combat minus rare use cases like pulling other players over a pit so they can fall to their death

  • @keylessword4029

    useless for combat minus

Shoot from Cannon, nearly miss shot, Harpoon on deck.
    or
shoot from cannon, harpoon Keg on deck and bring it with you

Grab player on ship by pulling them off there own ship

Grab enemy Keg and use it yourself

Harpoon enemy Cargo crates...since a lot of players tend to leave all there stuff above deck.

    Harpoon enemy on to traps

Player running? Hook and pull them back :P

    "Rare uses" :)
