"Safer Seas" not really easy

  • I've played Sea of Thieves for a long time and I just wanna suggest something for it, and it's that there's less of a chance for skeleton ships in Safer Seas if possible.
So let me explain why real quick: I was playing Safer Seas, solo, to relax. I was digging up treasure from maps, before joining a friend on another game.
After I left an island to sell everything to get off, I end up getting attacked by a skeleton sloop while a Megalodon decided to get between us both. I had to fight the skeleton sloop, and get away from the Megalodon after the fight (getting away took a while, didn't even attack it). It decided to stalk my ship without attacking, but another skeleton sloop eventually came out of nowhere.
It was shooting my ship, pushing me towards a big rock in the water. Next thing I know, had to drop my anchor to turn, but it was too late as I was already sunk before I could do anything else. Lost everything I had on the ship, and just got off, annoyed.
Please make this a thing if possible, of less chance for skeleton ships that can attack you in Safer Seas, or at least something simpler for crews that are solo.

  • Safer seas is meant to have the same events and npc attack frequencies as high seas, I think it's good to keep things challenging especially without enemy players.

Being a long time players as you say, what do you think you could have done differently to avoid this situation? How have you reacted in the past to similar events? What lessons have you learned from your experience?
I think reflecting on how things went and how they could go better are more constructive than asking straight up to lower the bar no?

  • @instawolf265
Hard no. Skeleteon sloops are easy as hell. Even with meg around, even if Kraken catches you. It only takes 10-15 shots if spread correctly to sink them. Also, always first set them on fire with fire bombs, cuz when skellies are dying due to fire they can't fire at ya.

The last thing I need is having even less engagements while sailing in a no-players mode.

Just keep playing and once you learn their behavior you're gonna be sinking them in 5min, tops.

  • Thems the breaks. My advice for dealing with skeleton ships? Sail at half mast, travel in a straight line, and aim for the skeleton on the cannons and keep hitting them there till they sink.

Or this, yea. Assuming he's good with aiming. Which I doubt he is though, since skeleton sloops are still a threat to him.

    Good advice none the less.

PS. to the OP himself - skeleton sloops are the best easy target practice (2nd one being skeleton galleons) you can get in SS before going to HS, even when forced. And trust me, you don't want having less, even forced, practice before going HS.

  • Dropping anchor was your big no no. Regardless why, that is a death sentence.
Bounce off the rocks and stay below and patch and bucket.

Safer seas, it’s a learning place. Not a “safe place”

  • @instawolf265 they won't implement changes unique to safer seas. It's meant to be a learning platform to transition you onto higher seas. That does feel like a harsh interaction but actually the takeaway is thats not normal. It's because you spent an usually large amount of time at the island so pve interactions do get queued and you will be bombarded once you set sail. A myriad of things will make this easier over time, you getting more comfortable completing the mission quicker, learning to prioritise keeping your ship afloat etc. Steer towards island if you don't want to engage a Meg (at least until you've sunk skelly sloop).

  • I noticed you have 1 day played so far. As a "long time player", I'm surprised you didn't use strategies at your disposal that would be in your favor to deal with both threats. Just speaking for myself here, if I was in the same situation as you, I would've sailed near the island or a large rock in order to lose the meg, and keep pressure on the skeleton sloop, shooting cannonballs, fire, and bone-callers at it. After sinking the skeleton ship and making sure everything on board was repaired/reset, I then would've dealt with the meg (if I was interested in it or not). Handling both at the same time, with whatever curse that skeleton ship had in their aresenal to use against you, probably wasn't the best strategy as a solo player.
