I think one major part of the ritual of playing Hourglass is the gathering of supplies when starting a new session. However you like to do it, every Pirate likes a couple of extra cannonballs in their inventory.
Which is why I don't think pre-game supply runs should be removed. As players have voiced, it is a preparation phase that has rewards for doing it. However, some more casual players just want to get into the game and shoot some cannonballs.
My suggestion? If players are missing a certain amount of supplies they will "resupply" as they are coming up. Missing supplies from this table are restocked in their barrels:
(Numbers are subject to change obviously)
80 Cannonballs
5 chainshots
5 Grapeshot
4 Fire & Blunderbombs
1 Bonecaller (iffy bout this one)
65 Planks
10 Pomegranates
2 Pines
150 Worms. This is extremely important trust me bro
Keep in mind this is not a static amount every time they dive without a resource. If a player has everything but one cannonball, they will only replenish one cannonball.
This is true for crates as well as barrels. I'm not sure how it would work for Players Inventories given the low cap they can carry, so that one is up to fate
Why make this change?
- Increases the amount of HG matches you can do in a session without resupplying
- Opens faster sessions up to players who have less time to play for long periods of time
- Makes the mode have a casual twist to it while keeping the competitive elements I'm sure will still be used in high ELO games
