I've heard this before and I'm sure it's been suggested here: I think having a wheelbarrow or dolly to carry large items like chests and a backpack to carry trinkets would be beneficial in balancing the time it takes for smaller crews to carry loot from forts or islands. I think it would be interesting from both a PvP and PvE perspective and could save time while changing the dynamic in a fun way.
Wheelbarrow/Dolly/Backpack idea

We have Harpoons on our ships, we have harpoon as a weapon. We can run with small items in hand.
What else do 'small' crews need to deliver? Larger crews against smaller crews would steal more loot faster though....Risk of carrying all that loot to your ship, if done right would grant you big reward.
There's more than a few forts that even with harpoons and running individual items is quite a long process. A large portion are solo players and those forts can take 5-10 minutes to run the loot into a harpoon position. Having this on islands as well would allow you to continue digging without backtracking through large islands just to drop them in harpoon range one by one and I think would be more immersive.
Of course doing this would create other risks, which I think is a welcomed trade-off for both the player(s) looting and the potential thieves and could create some fun tucks given the new mechanics
