Burning Blade - Values and Speed rebalance

  • Hi,

I have about 2500 hours in the game, and while I'm not a good reflection of the main population in it, I think I start to have a good understanding of the value of gold, the time it should take to make some, and what makes an event fun or not.
I would like to make several balance suggestions about it.

    • Firstly, I was chasing a Burning Blade runner with a group of friends the other day. We were in a Brigantine, and I noticed the Burning Blade was faster than us with the wind, wich is in my opinion completely absurd.
When you have the Burning Blade, you should be slow, you shouldn't be able to actively chase ships, and you shouldn't be able to actively run away from ships. You should just be able to sink them if they come to you, wich is more than enough.

    • It ties up into my second point. The value of the Burning Blade is kinda low in my opinion. There is not much inside it (the cof barely saves it, and will go away eventually), the Obsidian Skull is ridiculously worthless, and the selling is... "ok" at best when you get a big stack (with hours invested).
By slowing down the Burning Blade, the value per hour would drop even more, and the commendation to do 8 rituals would be even harder, I would then suggest to bump the value of rituals by 20% to 50%, and reduce the commendation cap to 6 or 7 rituals.

    • The sword itself is also worthless, when you sink the Burning Blade, the reward is non existent (besides the cof and the commendation), I would increase the value of the sword by 100%, wich would make it worth the effort for Athena players. I think it would also be a good thing to raise the Athena emissary of the attacker to grade 5 when the BB sinks (instead of grade 3 right now).

    • Besides that, the orb that you get from interrupting a ritual is completely overpriced, wich makes it currently one of the best ways to make money solo with an emissary (if not the best), with no skill or effort. I would reduce its value to 10 000 gold, wich would still be a lot in my opinion.

tl;dr - Increase gold from the Burning Blade, reduce its speed, reduce the value of orbs.

Thanks for reading this, and have a nice day.

  • Sword with 4/5 rituals is worth (with Athena emissary bonus) around 100 k.
    It's nice payoff I think.

  • You want the burning blade to be slower... It's already the slowest ship in the game, if it was going faster then you, you're sails were in completely wrong direction or it wasn't manned by a player crew yet. It can't chase or out run any ship. Buts that's only comment I have on what you said

  • @Ghutar 100k with Athena bonus is in fact about 30 to 50k.
30k to 50k for the hardest fight possible in the game (compared to other world events) with an hour of ritual worth of stack is not a good payoff in my opinion.
It is in fact, comparable to the value of an Orb (50k with bonus)... Wich would take about 5min to get with no effort, pretty much anywhere on any map.

@rotten-rocko I assure you we were all on sails. And it was not the first time I noticed that. We noticed the same with a sloop several days earlier.
The Burning Blade is almost imune to waves, wich makes it faster than the Sloop or the Brig when it has the wind and going N - NW - W.
It is indeed the slowest against the wind I think. Wich is fine and should not be changed.

  • @arias1101 we can compare bare numbers or payoff eith emissary not payoyt for blade without emissary bonus vs payoyt for orb without emissary.

If change things aroud burning blade of souls then I would love to see eny purposue to keep it and use is after sinking a BB.
