I am getting really tired of people using the fishing rod in cannon glitch to board me when angled away from a crazy range, if Rare can't patch this can we submit a ban video and get them banned? It's so commonplace people think it's fine....
Is fishing rod cannon launch ban worthy?
the report tool is mainly yours to use how you see fit as long as you genuinely think something violates the rules and then support does whatever support does.
They won't really get into details about it.
I don't typically report anything unless it's something serious and because I don't typically have the evidence that would pass my own test before I'd even consider passing it along.
I think people should use the tool as they see fit (in a responsible and genuine way). So many people self report with their exploits by being arrogant about it that many create more clear evidence against themselves than I ever could anyway.
Ideally it would just get fixed but it doesn't always work out that way.
It's an exploit and it's an advantage in SoT combat. That's pretty clear.
I lost a streak in solo HG because I was trying to turn in and a brig did that launch exploit to get themselves onto the outpost before I could, we didn't even have angle on the outpost we were both nosing it, generally it's never bothered me before but that time I found it extremely frustrating, I hope they patch it soon
Needs patching ASAP. It's a blatant disregard for the game's balance and the actions you have to take to perform it makes it obvious it is not intended. Exploits do more damage to the games health than people using cheats. In fact it is a form of cheating in itself to use an unfair advantage over others.
@ixxxoloff if you need fishing rod exploit for chase then you probably should get better with sailing or like Kenny Rogers sang in Gamblers Song "know when to walk away" :)
@sir-patrick1241 a dit dans Is fishing rod cannon launch ban worthy? :
To be honest, instead of wondering whether to ban players who use such exploits, Rare should simply fix these exploits and then there would be no issue.
Using any glitch or other exploit is normally strictly forbidden.
In any case, if you feel obliged to use exploits to gain a minimum advantage over your opponents, you're useless and should change your game.
PvP exploits are the worst, it just makes you want to puke... But then, you say ‘It's Rare's fault’, so I'm all for that, but I've been playing for over 4 years and players who exploit will always do so, one way or another. Rare fixes something, another exploit is used.... It's a cat-and-mouse game, just like cheatware...
So stop taking the blame, because it's really the gamers who are exploiting those responsible. Rare doesn't force you to use these bugs, exploits and so on, it's you and your fingers that use them....@zeyrniyx yep it's player own choice to use exploits and that whole "It's Rare foult that I can and I use exploits that I found on some youtube videos" is just a whiny way to cope with their conscience.
But still I think that Rare droped ball with slow and unpunishable responses with all exploits.
From time when folks was cheesing gold animals on Crooked Masts to Burning Blade there was never fast reaction or eny real punishment so after 6 years of it's no wonder we ended in Sea of Exploits.@zeyrniyx
Firstly, I didn't write that it was their fault, secondly, some exploits have been in the game for years, so they should be fixed. Pvp exploits are annoying, it's true, there are cheaters, worse than exploits, and we have a problem with that too, and so many players abuse them, exploits and bugs, unfortunately, Rare is not a small company without resources and funds, we have a problem with cheaters, exploits and bugs, I have reported several such people and nothing, no response.
I have nothing against Rare, I just don't understand why they continue to allow such behavior. Rare is too slow in this matter, right, they will fix some big exploits, ok, but most of them have been in the game for years.
I play Hourglass pvp myself and I've seen a lot. As some people write, these exploits are shown on YouTube, people use them because they are not patched quickly enough or at all.
I fall victim to them myself and banning people on this issue is not clear, some say it threatens with a ban, but some say that no one will get banned for it.
Rare should clearly emphasize this, condemning and banning such behavior even though banning does nothing, but that's a different topic.
Players do such things because they know they can get away with it. The fact that such posts appear on the forum says a lot.@sir-patrick1241 said in Is fishing rod cannon launch ban worthy?:

It's a lack of service within leadership in the community.
It's people looking to the popular for guidance rather than the principled.
People looking to have their views enabled rather than challenged.
The very people that make is seem like it's ok to do exploits are the ones that were wrong about season 13 exploiting. Rare enforced ToS and they were wrong. People paid the price for irresponsible leadership by popular people that are in this for themselves, not to look out for others.
People should stop looking to entertainers as an authority on ToS, right/wrong, etc.
There is no accountability in popularity beyond drama on social media. Streamers/content creators/entertainers are not involved in an accountable space. The ones involved will use bans for their own engagement farming and to fuel drama with Rare.
If people want to look to others for guidance they should look to people that consistently encourage fair play and staying out of trouble/unnecessary risk. If that is a popular person then so be it, but don't look to the ones that not only don't care if their viewers get banned but will also use it for their own personal gain in the space.
I play a lot of open crew. Recently in one of my sessions I had a crew mate that would not stop using the fishing rod launch. We weren’t even in combat and they still used the launch anytime they left the ship.
I have never looked up how to do the fishing rod version but I did try out the old version that only took zooming in on a map in your quest radial.
What’s my point?
People do this because they think it’s fun. You can jump out of the water like a dolphin. Of course it’s fun.
I don’t think banning people is the solution at all.
Rare didn’t ban for quick scoping or super sword lunging and they shouldn’t ban (IMO) for this either.
Rare should fix it if they don’t want players doing it. Reserve bans for extreme toxicity and cheating using 3rd party software.
Don’t ban people for finding a loophole in the game and using it when it happens to be something that’s a lot of fun to a lot of people.
Super sword lunge is a fun exploit and yet nobody is asking to ban players for using it and using it allows players to board a ship they may otherwise couldn’t have boarded.
I fully support Rare removing exploits from the game. All exploits. Just don’t ban people for finding and using them in the mean time. The responsibility is on the devs to remove the exploits.
I have no doubt Rare will remove it. Until then we just have to wait.
From Drew Stevens, in the last SOT News video:
...some bugs and unintended mechanics are going to find their way to live. However, players that abuse them to gain an advantage should expect to be penalised, and that can range from progress being removed through to suspended playtime depending on the severity of the impact. The responsibility ultimately sits with you as players on how you approach this. Clearly, the best approach is report it, don't use it and certainly don't share it. If you do however choose to take advantage of it, you should expect follow-up actions on your account - you've been warned.
In other words, if you are afraid of being banned, don't use it. If you see others use it, record and report, and let Rare deal with it.
Crud launching & dolphin diving are both cheating/exploits.
They are unintended mechanics that give the users unintended & unfair advantages over those who don't know them, how to use them, or how to counter them.
Anyone that is proven to use them (via reports with video), should be, at the minimum, temp banned, as with any exploit abuse or cheating event.
Well another fight tonight, chasing the bb on a sloop and had 3 of them crud launching non stop while they ran to reapers... if Rare could comment it's on the list to fix I would appreciate it! Also would like to comment that it's hard to clip them doing it when they miss because they are so fast in the water I can't clip their name.
Just had a brig crew do this to us today. They shot someone off the side with an impossible angle, but somehow that player boarded from the water while our sail was down with full wind. Literally not a chance that person should have been able to board, so we immediately called 'cheats' on them (on mic) and the one who boarded (and caught our anchor and set our ship on fire, then one-shot killed both of us) started trolling on mic about us being 'P-words' (PG version). I got a back spawn and they were trying to tell me how it was 'just a glitch' and then literally went on to explain how they used the 'fishing rod canon glitch' and the 'dolphin glitch' to board, and then proceeded to SHOW ME (on video, because I always record gameplay...for THIS reason), and it worked both times he showed me; he held his fishing rod, boarded the canon, shot up into the air and at the crest somehow TURNED SIDEWAYS and landed IN FRONT of his ship. Not sure why a griefing troll would take the time to give evidence of their glitch exploit cheats, but when I said I'm recording and going to report it, he seemed pretty confident about it, saying, 'Rare doesn't do anything about it anyway'. Then they killed me and laughed. I'm starting to believe Rare doesn't care about cheating, because I saw videos of it online from 3 years ago...and evidently it's still happening. Sad. This is why I rarely play the game anymore. I remember when Reapers were the worst part of the game, but now it's worse than Rust.
If people use exploits to get gold it doesn't affect me, if they exploit to win in hourglass its very frustrating. Got boarded today from dolphin diver who then blundered me off my boat and told me to get good... I sent video to Rare but no word on if they get banned or not they just tell me they send to internal team and no reporting on what happens to the user. Hope they fix this soon.

I doubt it’s ban worthy, Rare can and probably will fix it so there’s no real point in banning people, plus they would have to ban a large portion of their player base tbh.
Exploits come and go, it’s on rare to fix them.
It is definitely banworthy, since that it is a form of cheating. Rare has made a statement about this a couple of weeks ago.
The full quote:
"No matter how tight our processes are, some bugs and unintended mechanics are going to find their way to live. However players that abuse them to gain an advantage should expect to be penalised. And that can range from progress being removed through to suspending playtime depending on the severity of the impact. The responsibility ultimately sits with you as players on how you approach this. Clearly the best approach is report it, don't use it and certainly don't share it. If you do however choose to take advantage of it, you should expect follow-up actions on your account. You have been warned."So Rare has been crystal clear that (ab)using exploits is not allowed and will results in penalties. And one of those possible penalties are bans (suspending playtime). Since the exploits mentioned have higher impact, since they impact other players, bans are certainly on the table for those who use these exploits.
And that they would ban "a large portion of the player base" is nonsense. The fast majority of players don't use those exploits. This is nothing else then a claim cheaters use to try and justify why they shouldn't be punished for cheating.
