Hourglass shrinking boarder

  • I speak for a lot of people in sot(sea of thieves) for when we do hourglass it can take a really long time to sink the other ship, i had a round last for 45 min, and i didn’t even win. Which if i did i don't think the reward would be worth it. So i think sot should add a time limit were it would be the same size boarder for about 10 min, then the boarder will shrink until one ship sinks or goes out of bounds. This can really improve hourglass by adding a shrinking boarder insted of shoot a few shots, run, repair, shoot a few shots, run, repair. Over and over until someone runs out of resources. With a shrinking boarder it makes the fight be more close to were they cant run and becomes more epic and challenging. Please sot, we need shrinking hourglass boarders!

  • Without hourglass. I love to see what players would say when ships fun, shoot , run, repair. Or when battles last more than 15 seconds. :p
It silly but I see the frustration

Until they make hourglass battle areas perm locations. Shrinking circles won’t work as you hope. I can already think of ways to cheese even that and force players out of the ring xD

  • Hourglass is not a battle royale and therefore should not have a shrinking boarder imo. Putting a timer on a battle would lose what is great about SoT. I like not knowing how long a battle will last, the outcome of the battle, coming up with different strategies to get the enemy. Whereas if you had a shrinking boarder, all you’d have to do is wait for the circle to close and then fight. I’m not saying your idea is bad, I just don’t think it’s right for this game.

  • @riftenwatcher sure but what if the boarder didnt shrink fully and just shrunk to a really small boarder therefore, no more runners!

  • I don't think they'll be able to manage shrinking circles. Imagine how many more bugs it'd bring.
On the other hand, I saw a post here (https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/topic/172097/suggestion-for-hourglass-reward-changes/1) that suggests basing the reward not only on the result but on the process (kills, shot's that you hit, holes patched, etc.)
I think that'd be a nice solution and in your case, you'd get a decent amount of rep for that 45 min fight.

  • @captaincraft731 I agree that people running away is frustrating, and this might sound counterintuitive but I actually think a shrinking border will increase the chance of people running.

In my experience (which in hourglass is mostly solo slooping), when people run, it's because they are making repeated boarding attempts to try to sail you out of the arena, rather than engaging you in naval combat and trying to sink you. If the border were to start shrinking, this would make boarding and sailing someone out of the arena an easier and more rewarding strategy, and would encourage it over engaging people in naval combat. If people know the arena is going to shrink after 10 minutes, they may think "OK, I just need to keep away from them for 10 minutes, then the border will shrink and I can sail them out of bounds a lot more easily".

I'm not disagreeing with you that people running away is frustrating. I just think shrinking the border would have the opposite effect to what you're hoping for.
