Bots crew for solo players in Safer Seas

  • Is it possible to create a team of skeletons or ghost bots (these can be skins to choose you want) in the <Safer Seas> mode for those solo players who want to, for example, sail on a brigantine, but do not want or cannot for some reason (emotional, etc.) play with other people? The behavior of the bots can be copied from the Burning Blade ship event: repairing the ship, firing cannons. Why not just choose a sloop? Coz a brigantine or galleon gives different impressions and emotions. Your thoughts?

  • @krahaborr Rare have confirmed there would be no special treatment given to Safer Seas so if it isn’t in High Seas, it certainly won’t be going into Safer Seas. Find yourself a crew or sail on a smaller ship.

I know how Safer Seas mode is actually working, I asked if it possible not what I should to do

Sailing the bigger boat is mostly going to be a waste of energy (additional sails etc.)

My question would be for what purpose?

Feel free to re-read till you understand since you skipped it out in your reply.

  • This is a suggestion I was working on. It’s a work in progress but essentially asking for the same thing but for high seas and safer seas.

This is an alternative idea to simply offering a solo sloop crew roster that would put solos on a server with other solos exclusively.

“Add ai crew mates to Sea of Thieves.

Why add ai crew mates to Sea of Thieves?

AI crew mates will improve the solo PvP experience on servers with crews of all sizes and it will allow sloop mains to use the larger ships without worrying about the trolls of open crew ruining a session.

How will it improve the solo PvP experience?

The main weakness of solo slooping is simply not having a second set of hands to repair the ship as you continue to steer and return fire.

Solo players must repair their lower deck holes before they go to board an enemy ship if they don’t want to sink. Boarding is basically required to sink competent full crews.

    AI Crew Limitations:

    (1) Vulnerable to damage, health is 100hp, respawn time is based on ship size

    (2) Cannot bail water, steer the ship, jump, climb ladders, fire anything other than regular cannonballs, use throwables, cook food or leave the ship

    (3) Cannot eat food to heal but their hp will slowly regenerate if they don’t take damage for a period of time similar to how overheal works for players

    (4) Cannot repair masts, wheel or capstan damage

AI Crew Automatic Skills (in order of priority):

    (1) Fighting boarders - ai crew mates will use the default weapons, sword and flintlock to fight any non-allied player that boards the ship.

    (2) Reviving crew mates - ai crew mates will revive crew mates as long as there are no enemy players aboard the ship.

    (3) Repairing ship damage - ai crew mates will repair hull damage as long as there are wooden planks to use aboard the ship; lower deck holes are prioritized over upper/mid deck holes.

    AI Crew Manual Skills:

    (1) Firing cannons - ai crew mates will fire regular cannonballs at PvE and non-allied player ships if ordered to do so by a human crew mate using the pirate chat wheel as long as there are cannonballs to use aboard the ship.

    (2) Sail management - ai crew mates will lower, raise or angle the sails if ordered to do so by a human crew mate using the pirate chat wheel.

    (3) Anchor management - ai crew mates will drop or help raise the anchor if ordered to do so by a human crew mate using the pirate chat wheel. “

  • @savvystraw37257 You do know solo is meant to be hard mode. If you want to sail a bigger ship find crew mates. Ai "help" for people is just a bad idea imo.

  • @captain-coel

Everything to you is a bad idea. Who cares?

No not everything. but ideas that make this game easier are for certain.

  • @captain-coel

    Do you even play solo?

    Do you even play solo?

All the time. I play about 50% solo and 50% galley. Some times i end up on a duo sloop or a brig.

  • @captain-coel

How many hours do you have?

Do you know what empathy is?

Have you ever considered the feelings of pirates who maybe have less experience?

    Around 6000.

Do you know what empathy is?

    Yes

Have you ever considered the feelings of pirates who maybe have less experience?

I have, they need to learn the game, not ask for crutches.

  • @captain-coel

Yeah see that’s where we disagree.

I am a solo/open crew sloop of 6k hours and I have wanted a solo sloop crew roster option the entire time and my mind has not changed.

This is an alternative idea to that suggestion that could work but would still not be as ideal as simply leveling the playing field for solos.

I can’t wait to compare my stats with yours since we have roughly the same hours.

Let me know what the numbers look like?

I win on time played and order of souls skulls cashed in but you beat me in everything else. I have 233 achievements you have 273. I’m not far behind you in a lot of categories. You definitely did a merchant cargo exploit though I can tell.

Interesting, and nope, never done a cargo exploit. I just enjoy lost shipments, I probably did 200 of those before captaincy. Now they are kinda meh because they nerfed the volume of crates.

  • In fact, I wouldn't be all that surprised if in the future we ended up with AI crews (on demand or not) on every single ship.
What's more, having done BB mainly in gallions, I can vouch for the fact that with a crew of 4, skeletons aren't really useful.
Yes, maybe warn of an enemy ship when the skeletons are firing (but there's also the music, so...).
Also, in gallions, the repairer role is no longer useful. I can say that, since I mainly do this role and in all my BB sessions, I had to put 2 boards no more.
So the presence of skeletons on the BB is obviously aimed at sloop players.

And personally I'm in favour of the AI presence in Safers Seas for solo players for one very simple reason, to have a presence.
So that's to be seen in the future, but as I said, I really wouldn't be surprised if it happened one day.

For the record, because I've read the replies to this post: I've got over 9000 hours on SoT, I mainly play in gallions when I'm with my friends and solo when I need some peace and quiet. So there you go.

  • @captain-coel

Bots for solo players would definitely make Safer Seas more enjoyable, especially for those who just want to explore and grind without a full crew. Smart AI crew behavior could balance things without breaking immersion. Interestingly, this kind of adaptive NPC system is similar to what companies like Dev Technosys work on when building AI-driven systems—getting bots to feel useful but not overpowered is always the real challenge.
