It's been said a dozen times before but now is the time for arctic seas. (With biome ideas/not ranting)

  • With the southern region available to us now and not used it's time to occupy it with an arctic area. New islands to explore, new tall tales, new types of loot, new enemies!

    This region would include:
Ice bergs to avoid while sailing
A new tool! A pick axe to use on the frozen ground instead of a shovel to dig up your loot.
The ponds on these new islands would be frozen over so your pirate slips and slides while running on them.
You can use the pick tool to create a hole in the pond to go ice-fishing in it to catch new fish local to the region.
New frozen skeletons where the ice would be their armor that you have to melt off by bringing by campfires located on the island or firebombs. Once the frozen armor melts away you must fight them in regular form also!
New emotes like snow angel emote, build a snow man emote, shiver emote, etc.
Over all just a fun area to explore instead of an annoying area with angry islands and spicy water.

EDIT: The tall tale could explain why it's here with a frozen queen or something as mentioned in another recent arctic post. While not 100% accurate to the region of the world we're in it could be made sense of with a good tall tale story. The point is to shake the game up a bit and for us to all have fun. I want this game to stay around for as long as possible and I think with well driven stories and new places to explore/discover helps drive this game. The devs are doing great work and I think a big patch could help keep this game going for a long, long time. Even if this happens after we finally get Flame Heart.

I know, I know. It's been said before but just without all of these ideas. With the PS5 came a lot of new players and I think we need a big update to bring back some veterans. I only came back because my friend could play it on his PS5 so we could play together. I quit after arena closed and I think something like this would have brought me back and it would for others also.

  • Consider that almost everything you've asked for is essentially a reskin of what we already have. How would any of your suggestions change the actual game play?

  • I'd buy a Northern Seas expansion for like $60+ easily.

Me personally, I'd prefer an Oriental/Ashen themed DLC for as much as $100-$200 (Yes, I'm crazy AND have money). No questions asked, I would throw my money at Rare so fast.

    However,

Rare can design 10 costumes and sell them for $10 each
    = $100

    or...

They can design an entire expansion that would take resources from their entire studio for months to years and sell it for $40 to $60. The average cost of a new AAA game.

Cosmetics are BIG business and way more cost effective.

  • Why should we swap from consistent world that evolve for antoher generic patchwork of biomes?

  • @rare-jumbie The same way any content that Rare is releasing is just the same thing that you're describing. It's new content with new stuff to do and explore. The same as with any patches that add content like season 13, they're adding ... a boat with 1 more cannon on each side, islands with ... skeletons! a new.... sword! It's all the same the way you described it and if that's the case then why add anything with that logic?

Because it's new and fun to do and explore. It keeps the players engaged. That's why.

  • They should do a single, instanced TT that happens in a portal with an ice theme and be done with it.

  • I wonder if players would actually like sailing in an ice environment ...

It should have icebergs, while sailing bumping into one or one appearing close by should damage your ship. When docked they would damage your ship as they float by while you're digging up some chests (which should take extra time as the ground is frozen); at least in the Roar you see & hear that the rocks might be damaging your ship.

Frozen seas ... you sail towards an island and you're getting stuck (and getting holes as they damage your hull), or you spent some time killing skellies or doing riddles &c, slip and slide back to your ship and it's unmoveable (and has holes in it) until you spend some time breaking the ice ... while a ship just out of reach of the frozen bit is attacking you.

  • Sailing in the Caribbean, hot climate, should be instanced instead to make sense etc.

Same post, different person, not a new idea.

  • Adding another region would probably be taxing on the XBOX One users, since this game was built for that architecture. However, I think it would be fun to have environmental changes to the game... Like imagine if there was a ritual you could do (Like at the Sea Fortresses) that would cause the Devil's Roar to freeze over. It would remove the volcanos erupting, but add icebergs to sail around, and when you were off the boat you could potentially freeze unless you were actively holding your lantern or were by a campfire.

Ashen quests would become Tundra Quests, with a different loot table... but you could perform the ritual again and then all the volcanoes would erupt and it would go back to be the Devil's Roar.
