Steam achievements exist because for some people, it's fun to chase the goals they represent. It's satisfying to practice a difficult maneuver to hit a certain achievement, or to put in the time to achieve something that takes a long time to do. But in the end, it should be possible to get 100% achievements on a game in a reasonable timeframe.
I think it makes sense that some commendations in SoT are practically endless, it gives something to chase for even the most hardcore players who have played thousands of hours and still want something to achieve in the game. But this shouldn't be the case for Steam achievements, something achievement hunters like to actually complete without dedicating your entire free time to a single game for a ridiculous amount of time. There's a sweet spot for 100% achievements on any given game, games that are meant to be difficult will have some difficult achievements, and games that are meant to be played for a long period of time will have grindy achievements, with many games having a bit of both depending on the genre.
Sea of Thieves doesn't have enough ''difficult'' achievements, and the grindy ones are so grindy, i'd basically have to quit my job for a year to even attempt to get them. Difficult achievements are generally the most fun, because they require practice, or coordination with other people, or they get you to play the game in ways you normally don't. Grindy achievements have their place, and should feel like a completed journey when done, but should never feel like a second job. SoT has many achievements that do feel like a second job when trying to achieve them. It should certainly not take over 1000 hours to get 100%, which it currently easily does and then some.
I'd love for Rare to heavily balance this. I'm not even a big achievement hunter on Steam, only for games i end up playing and enjoying more than most others. And SoT falls into that category and i'd love to add it to the 100% list before i die of old age.
