Storm Strike Curse

  • It is my hope that you do not place the storm strike curse behind a paywall, as me and many other players feel that curses should only be obtained through hard work and determination. I believe that if you choose to add this curse to the emporium it could negatively impact the amount of revenue Sea of Thieves produces. Many games start down the path of greed and slowly fall out of relevancy as they progress. I am not saying that it will lead to the death of Sea of Thieves, or even that it is an act of greed, but I am saying that it is a slippery slope. If you would like evidence to back up my claim then look at the uproar caused by the two stone curses, or the comments on the video announcing the storm strike cures: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlIssp5udME
The top comments are all related to the storm curse which was shown for less than 10 seconds in a 10 minute video. That's how much people hate the idea of curses behind paywalls.
I love Sea of Thieves and I did not come here to complain. I have a few solutions to BOTH issues.
1, The issue of obtaining the curse. I think you could add a new tab to the bilge rat section of the pirate log. In here there could be storm related commendations like:
-Spend x minutes in the storm
-Catch x of each stormfish type
-Get struck by lightning x times
After completing these commendations one could earn this epic curse.
    2. The issue of having good quality items in the emporium. I think this could be solved in a couple ways. Add unique items that have animated or exotic textures to the emporium as these wouldn't fit elsewhere in the Sea of Thieves (not curses). You could do collaborations with other games; nobody could complain about these being behind a paywall because the purpose of the pirate emporium is to sell non-canon items. A final idea is you could collaborate with Sea of Thieves partners and allow them to design their own ship, clothing, and tool sets. These could be earned through the emporium or through twitch drops, if the person wants.
In conclusion, I hope Sea of Thieves remains somewhat pure in terms of micro-transactions and does go down a dark path like 95% of E.A. developed games. I love this game that you all have made and I respect your right as a company to make your own decisions. Please do not ruin a great game for a little bit of profit.

  • @kdubsmcsquid unfortunately I fear it's too late and they won't change course.

I agree that it's a serious turning point for the emporium and I hope it's not an indication of the future

  • The first emporium curse was the stone one, an ugly curse that is obtained through the plunder pass. I think they did this so that people would be less angry about the lightning curse, a really cool one in my opinion, being in the emporium, since we are already used to paid curses.

  • I want to give some feedback about how I feel about curses being added to the Emporium.

It's ok they have decided to add some curses to the emporium. However, they should add only those that don't fit with the core of the game. I mean, the stone curse doesn't fit into the game's gameplay mechanics as there is nothing related to Medusa or getting petrified. On the other hand, the new storm curse is much more related with the game itself, so I don't see logic adding it as an emporium feature. This kind of curses should be linked to commendations. There is a commendation for selling stormfish, so the most logic approach should be linking the curse to that to promote certain gameplay styles and grinding around that.

Rare, you have 7 days to take it off the Emporium and release a new update later on linking that curse to especific commendations. Please, if you add any curse related to gameplay or mechanics, make it obtainable through commendations. Everything non related to the game can have a paywall, but not this kind of curses.

  • How do you get the storm strike curse i don’t see it in the emporium?

  • @smokeshow9372 it's coming out, not just yet.

  • Yeah it won't get blocked. Don't stress about it. If the most ancient and legendary curse of them all eventually got a way of unlocking it then so will these extra curses get the same treatment.
If there's one thing we have to question it's that why Rare has only just now started adding the new curses in the pirate emporium (temporary for sure) and not the old ones. It's an efficient way of making money, where everyone should be resting assured that all curses will be unlockable. Besides, on the 1% off chance that they won't add the curses in-game, I wouldn't hold it against Rare, We can't name a single game nowadays that doesn't tempt us with beneficial gadgets for money, except Sea Of Thieves. I'll take a minute of appreciation every day if I must.
