Allow us to dive between servers with the Horn of Fair Winds

  • The Horn of Fair Winds is basically completely absent from the game at the moment. I've gone weeks without seeing one.

I believe the ability to dip between servers with it - like we used to be able to do with tridents for example, would greatly increase their viability as a tool within the game.

Right now, there is almost no reason to go out of your way to get the horn, because you know at a certain point you will dip again to a new server, and it will disappear. It's usefulness versus the time it takes to find (not to mention the random nature of its spawns, make it's a proposition that is just not worth it. i.e. it's margin of usefulness is way too slim.

If I knew that I could take it between serves, I'd invest in getting two or three a session, knowing that I have them when/if I require them.
Let the servers BLOW up with some fun. More tools, less rules.

  • This is one of the topics that need more communication in a podcast episode or something imo.

Calling it the fun season and a break from systems but then just creating another system season from rarity and grind doesn't make sense to me without more communication about it.

This has been one of my favorite seasons on a personal level but I don't get why they approached it and are approaching it the way they did/do.

Personally I'd just like some transparency about it and won't be fired up about whatever the reasoning is.

If they are trying to get people to do certain things for numbers, fine. It's a business and that's a part of business.

If this is how they see "fun", fine. At least we know.

If they are doing this to balance out the pvp grind of Hg, fine. That's consistency.

I would like more of the "why". Not to give them a tough time about it but just because we kind of wonder and wander around a lot when decisions don't make any sense on the outside of that decision making process.

All the speculation as to why doesn't do them any favors overall imo. But if they can't say then I guess that's just how it goes.

  • I cant say i know at a point i will dive again. I may dive for my first quest, but after that i often stick to a server until i sink unless i really have nothing to lose. You dont need to dive, at best diving will save you a minute since most voyages you vote down are an island or 2 over at most, so it really is not this vital tool. Personally i think they should make islands a bit further if you sail to them, like they used to, and make them offer a bit more value for that extra time.

That little tangent aside, if they ever did allow players to dive with the horn for any reason, it would have to remove all value and rep from that horn if you sold it since its a loot item, and you arnt supposed to be able to dive with loot.

  • @mostexpendable

It took me 5-6 days or so to complete the achievement. All I did were shrines and treasuries. I still say the worst achievement that took me almost a year to complete, were to have other crews turn in generous gifts for me. Keep at it OP.

  • @wolfmanbush Well said.

  • @goldsmen Eh, the loot thing is just another rule.
Diving is a fantastic mechanic for me, I like the time saving nature once I've sold all my loot. A new server, new players. new possibilities. No wait.
There are too many restrictions right now. If I'm in hour glass I can't dive to a new server to do a voyage. I can't take the horn... just too many restrictions for me.

  • @europa4033 well done, personally it's not about the commendation for me, it's about having a cool new tool that I'm literally never using or seeing anyone else use.

  • @mostexpendable To be fair the people that put down useless quests just to dive to a new server in the hopes that theres an emissary or an event going on in the new server aren't really the intention. If you were able to dip with the horn of fair winds then the game would be broken. If youre going to go to a new server then you need to accept that you're starting from scratch in a way. I feel like were lucky to be able to dive with curses and stuff. Mostly because people dont use them so people dont complain. The reason why you never see the horn anymore is because so many people complained about it being unbalanced in the first place.

  • @straw-hat-blake people complain because they're terrified of change. Best way to kill this game is to nerf everything and keep it stagnant. I wasn't on Insider while they were testing the horn of fair winds, but I'd be the house that the forums were filled with people terrified that the meta would change. Hence why we get an item that is essentially useless when it hits retail. But hey, that's another discussion entirely.

I would not say there is too many restrictions considering diving was never an option before. Used to be a lot harder and more fiddly to change servers while keeping your supplies, but even then it had the same loot restriction, and using it for that same purpose was never intended.

Way i see it, a whole new mechanic that adds something that didnt exist before is not too restricted compared to the fact that the game that did not even offer the basics of what is being offered now. You didnt used to be able to dive no matter what you had onboard, so having the option now is not too restrictive, its a new option and entirely up to you if you intend to use it with those minimal restrictions, as opposed to not having the option at all.

  • If they allowed you to dive with the horn, I imagine they’d have to allow you to dive with tridents as well.

  • The only issue with this is that it would enable people to use the horn to sprint and dive away from pvp. Not a huge issue but it is one that needs consideration.

As it stands if you use it to dive away your pursuer will get the horn as a reward.
