Just Got Pirate Legend - Now What?

  • The title says it all.

I used the community weekend to grind my levels up to 50 and got Pirate Legend. I did a quick Athena's mission to start that rep grind, and it's pretty horrible. I did an entire mission and only got 5% toward rank 2.

I watched some videos, and it turns out that Athena's rep grind has been problematic for years. Honestly, I was only doing it for the Legendary Curse, which requires level 100 (?!), so I'll likely never get that. My time is too valuable for that type of grind to earn a single cosmetic.

So, what else is there to do? It seems a bit odd that the next major faction unlock seems so difficult to level up. I love this game, but after the faction rep grind, I'm looking for some new stuff to do.

Should I just PvP now, or is there more that I'm missing?

  • the sea is the canvas and we are the painters

that's why there are so many different styles of play

that's why there are so many different types of people that play

we are painting the adventures we want to see and share

let your imagination guide you, see where it takes you.

  • We can do whatever we want. Just sail around and do things. Help new players, check off achievements, and so on. Make some new friends in the game and on discord.

  • Thanks for the tips. I have done everything solo so far and it feels like it's time to join a guild. I bet this game is 100x more fun with friends.

Just depends on the preferences of a person, there is no universal "better" way to play.

Sounds like you're interested in branching out so that very well may work wonders for you.

I think this is one of the best solo experiences in multiplayer gaming but I am biased. Most of my time in this game has been solo and I love it.

  • Now. Your really journey begins.

  • Have you done all the tall tales? Those can be really fun and a change of pace after a grind.

  • Commendations is a great way to keep yourself busy. Played since launch and still have a few left

  • @v1ne6 also, the legendary curse (either ghost or the glowy eyes) they dont require as much athena’s fortune reputation but more so Guardians of athenas fortune reputation.

    100 for ghost curse
105 for the glowy eyes curse

And the way to earn that rep is by fighting in hour glass

  • @v1ne6 do what the rest of us have done for the past 5 years. Achievement hunting. Commendations for cosmetics. Be free.

  • @v1ne6 Theres tons of things to do in the game now, be glad you werent a pirate legend within the first 2 months after release.

  • I think I remember telling you before in another thread pirate legend is very disappointing 😂 but yeah man the games just the same after the PL marker - Athena voyages. A nice quick way to level athena is HG if you're looking to level that up.

Also the pirate legend curse isn't Athena 100 it's guardians of fortune level 105 I think. If you're looking to HG drop me a message, I can help if our time zones are right and I'm in a pretty good guild where most people are working towards lvl 100 or already there and helping others! Think there's a few spots left

  • Legendary curse is not lvl 100 in athenas fortune, its 100 in guardians of fortune which is the pvp mode from the hourglass. You will still want to get the athena emissary flag for maximum rep if you commit to that which you get from the pirate lord. But that is a serious grind and can ware on your sanity quite a lot.

As for athena voyages, the base ones are made to be a very simple 2 parter, it should offer you more than half a level though, even without an emissary flag, but basic athena voyages are less rewarding than legend of the veil quests, or really anything else that offers athena loot.

  • The beauty of this game is you can play it however you like. I suspect we get a lot of players leave after hitting pirate legend because they place so much expectation and pressure on reaching it that they're left clueless or deflated after. Try everything and just do what you enjoy, whether that's achievement or commendation hunting, pvp, chilling with friends, fishing, all of the above. There's no right or wrong answer

  • @goldsmen it's actually 105 if you want to be pedantic (which I generally do 😅)

When you get to the last couple levels of the first 100, they are so slow from what i have seen, that those last 5 is like a sneeze and one sink away!

  • Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions!

If I may ask, I keep hearing about commendations. These have been coming naturally as I play, but are there some particular ones I should be gunning for?

Rewarding and fulfilling adventure, the rest is just stuff you can chase if you want to.

Something important to keep in mind about this game and experience,

it will amplify what you bring with you on your adventure,

if you don't really want to play, it'll get worse

if you are grumpy at the start of a session, it'll get worse

if you are looking to smile, you'll find a reason

if you are looking for something to appreciate, you'll find it

Never play this game just because it exists, never set sail if you are already frustrated with the game. Sail because you want to, because it brings you joy, because you find it rewarding and exciting, or relaxing and calm.

Why? I got PL June 5, 2018. It wasn't so bad. There were still comms to grind. It gave me time to grind them out and I was rewarded with the overachiever sails.

Truth be told, the main reason I play this game is because I spent a lot of time sailing when I was younger, and I always loved it. I actually circumnavigated the globe on a barkentine-rigged tall ship, so this game is all about nostalgia and sailing for me. I could care less about the PvP, but it seems like something I need to do eventually.

Still, I'd be happy with the adventuring and exploring.

Your posts regularly appear to show that you think you need to do what others do, this game is all about your freedom, it's not about conformity or following others and metas.

Just your post here shows you are unique and have interesting life experiences. Once you find your own style and express yourself through your decisions and gameplay it will turn into something that you look forward to doing.

You totally did. I wasn't really disappointed with PL, more so with the lack of a clear direction after it. I still think Rare could stand to work on that. It's an interesting predicament for them, though, since players never get more powerful, only more skilled.

The current compensation system is great, but it's also a bit muddy and hard to navigate (at least for me). Adding a few more factions, especially for PvE players, might help a lot. Or even expand on the existing ones with more variety of quests.

The game is great; it just needs to fill in a few gaps to really shine.

  • @captain-coel
    Ok.
My point is... he is complaining now that theres nothing else to do in the game. Go back to 2018 and compare. Back then you didnt have as many options as you do today.
