Ships in Sea of Thieves hasn’t changed since launch. I’m proposing ship cosmetic upgrades.
The upgrades can only be applied to captained ships, each upgrade will give the ship a different appearance, sort of like we see with skeleton ships but the player ships will need to keep the same hit box but also look different than the default ship.
This is a good opportunity to create a gold sink as well, with each upgrade the cost goes higher.
So if we have 10 upgrades, it could go like
- 500,000
- 1,000,000
- 1,500,000
- 2,500,000
- 5,000,000
- 10,000,000
- 15,000,000
- 20,000,000
- 25,000,000
- 30,000,000
And you must upgrade them in order and cannot jump to the highest upgrade.
Upgrades are only cosmetic and will not offer any advantages.
Upgrades could consist of
- wood type
- wood carvings
- wood grain
- Objects such as spikes protruding from the ship
- chains hanging off the ship
- effects rolling off the hull surrounding the ship
- Different shapes to the ships while maintaining the same hitbox and location of ladders, anchors, cannons, helm etc.
There are a lot of possibilities when it comes to ship designs and it doesn’t have to be limited to 10.
Currently, we don’t have a great gold sink and most of the new items are going straight to the emporium except reskinned cosmetics. We need upgrades that are cosmetic only so that we have a sense of progress and something to sink our gold into.
