I can only hear my own crew in voice and text chat and every other ship with a custom name is called "The Black Death". My friends can hear other people and see the ship names as normal but I cannot. I can see other people's text wheels though. Anyone know how to fix this?

Shipnames can be hidden (i.e. replaced with names like The Black Death) by Settings - HUD - Hide Ship NamesFrom Me.
Could also be an XBox setting that won't let you see other people's content.
Not hearing other crews could also be a privacy setting.
