  • Xim usage exists in some form across most games. Overwatch recently put out a statement that they plan to tackle the Xim users in their game, but not by banning them… they will be placed in PC only lobbies. So I’m guessing the technology is finally existing to be able to detect it. That said… SoT only just introduced anticheat and it was a pretty big failure on release, beyond easy to bypass. They are likely a very long way from dealing with Xim users…

Evenso, sometimes you end up in mixed lobbies when you selected controller. Unless you are on a PS5, there is no forced matchmaking in this game, it is “prefer but not guaranteed.” And you’ll know if you are in a controller only lobby when you first load in and see the top left message letting you know what kind of lobby you ended up in. If you get server merged you can be swapped to a different type of lobby, so even if you started in a controlled only, you might end up in a mixed after a merge.

With the introduction of PS5 to the player base they introduced PS5 only lobbies, so not controller only, but specific console only. But I’m hoping with this truly forced option, and a new burst of console players, they may introduce truly guaranteed controller only for the Xbox and Xcloud users.

So not to say they were using a Xim, there’s no way to know for certain, but it could be you ended up in a mixed lobby and didn’t realize it. You also might have just gotten unlucky and matched with a goated player… or they may have been cheating after all, no way to know for sure.

  • @sparkiebeard it’s a difficult mode to play in.

There’s no real skill/rank based matchmaking and so brand new players end up against extremely skilled people all the time. When the mode first released the intentions were to have better matches, but that resulted in extremely long wait times. So they quickly made changes so people weren’t waiting 10+ minutes for each match.

Couple that with the fact the mode has been out for just over 1.5 years and that most people stop playing it once they get the cosmetic reward that they want. The people you run into are either try hards who want to battle and have done it a lot, so are skilled, or people chasing cosmetics who don’t care about the fighting and do whatever they can to get levels as fast as possible(so are loss farming or using various cheats).

It needs a revamp but considering how long it takes them to expand content once it is originally released… I don’t see any improvements being made for years to come.

  • Sometimes i wonder too how people are so accurate with fast movements and double gunning. I just hate close combat in sot the aim assist is really bad when i compare it with first person shooter on console like halo for example. I have no idea how to handle close pvp in sot, its also pretty fast for my taste when players bunny hoppin on a small sloop

  • @sparkiebeard apologies if I'm stating the obvious here as I'm also very new to hourglass (and gaming in general), and I'm definitely not saying you're wrong or that people don't cheat because I know some people do. Could I just ask though if you have remapped your jump button? One thing that's made a huge difference to my game is remapping my jump button to the right thumbstick so I don't have to take my thumb off the look/ aim button while jumping.

Also have you considered that they may be using a more advanced controller, with more buttons than yours, that allows them to be inputting commands faster than you can (e.g. maybe there are situations where you need to press three different buttons, all with your thumb, whereas they have paddles on the back of their controller which allows them to press all three buttons almost simultaneously with different fingers)?

Again, I'm quite new to gaming so happy to be corrected on anything I've said, and apologies if I'm asking obvious/ stupid questions.

  • This game has been out for 5 years. There are some incredibly skilled players out there. With enough practice, you can pull off moves and aim with controller that appear to be cheating to newer players. Plus, they've recently added AA. When used properly, it's very overpowered. It can seem like aimlock.

That's not to say there aren't people utilizing XIM devices out there, but I'd bet it's a lot less than you think.

Highlighting this last part for emphasis, as the cost alone for these devices guarantees there is not widespread adoption of them like many claim.
