A problem I have with matchmaking as a random you are already part of a crew I want a captain to choose me and as a captain I want to be able to choose my crew whether it's friend or random. The solution to this is quite simple and I know a lot of people may disagree but it makes sense especially in a pirate game. The solution would be for randoms it would be that you would spawn on an outpost like normal but not part of a crew allowing multiple randoms to appear on outposts to hang out with each other or kill each other I don't care which happens. When a captain though joins the game they would have their Captained ship and would also have access to a similar emote to The guild invite. Allowing the captain to invite the amount of crew members the ship is allowed to have. You could also stow away on another ship but if you die you would reappear on an outpost not a ship. in order to respawn on a ship you would have to be part of a crew. This scenario would allow Outpost to be a lot more lively and a lot more dangerous where you have to be care.
Captains should have a higher command I don't care who things it wouldn't be fair because there's a reason that a captain is named a captain they're in charge. I always see when someone tries to say they're captain people decide to leave the game. In order to fix this problem the solution would be this a captain should be allowed to vote anyone into the bridge without extra votes however the crew has the right to vote mutiny challenging the captain he who kills the captain becomes the captain while in the server if the former Captain leaves his ship would be available for use to him still the crew owning the captain ship would have temporary ownership till new captain leaves server.
