Devil’s Roar needs an update

  • The Devil’s Roar needs an update. So far the other three regions have gotten new areas and activities but the roar has been vacant. Here are some proposals to help that.

    Expansion
Probably the most obvious but also a great one is expansion. The roar could benefit from having a sea fort, a siren shrine, and maybe one of the new skeleton camps/temples that were revealed in the 2024 preview. Obviously the rewards would need to be good. Such as for the sea fort providing ashen loot and maybe new ashen phantom loot. The siren shrine should also get the same treatment. Ashen infected coral loot and ashen breaths of the sea could help. Lava themed forts, and temples could also make them unique to any other region

    World Events
So far the only world event that can spawn in the roar is molten sands. However that is rare and is not worth it. Having more world events that are unique to the region could help. Example an ashen skeleton fleet that has the boss ship of the ashen dragon. These will drop unique ashen loot items to make them worthwhile. However world event rewards need to be updated as well. Molten sands fortress should give new ashen variants of the stronghold loot and same with ashen skeleton fleet providing ashen version of the skeleton captains chests and skulls. All of these changes can be explained by the return of captain Flameheart to the sea of thieves and him strengthening his hold over the roar.

    Reopen the heart of fire
With Flameheart returning a new and unique world event or exploration area could reopen. The heart of fire bursts as when skeletons loyal to Flameheart have gathered ashen tribute to their king. This would be a unique dungeon within the roar.

    Rewards
Obviously the most effective way to bring the roar back is to just rebalance the rewards of ashen treasures. Right now the rewards of ashen variants of the loot is only 1.5x more than their normal variants. That is nowhere worth going into a dangerous region for something that is marginally better. Ashen loot should be worth at the very least 2x more in gold and reputation than their normal counterparts.

With volcanos being the major threat. Placing them would be challenging. Even shrines would just be troublesome.

I think lore wise, the DR was a place not even the ancients dared go.

Add a grade 5, it still a lot better. The risk = reward
Risk the danger and earn great rewards. Since no players go there because of the volcanos, the only risk is time and blowing up. :)

  • I like all these ideas. The Devil's Roar needs an update like you said to make the fort there more worth it. And with Flameheart returning, it's perfect for him to strengthen his hold on the region too.

  • @burnbacon the roar was visited by the ancients as there are ancient vaults, cave paintings, and ruins of the coast of cinder islet

  • Yeah the Roar needs sea forts, sunken mermaid treasures, and something unique to its region. Like an Ashen Meg or something. The chest of wondrous secrets is way too rare to travel to this region for.

    1. Expansion . Ney. Devil's Roar is the Most Dangerous place. It has Very Hot, ye can say Boiling, Waters and Active Volcanos on each island and corner of the sea. Such conditions would deal a great damage to Sirens & Phantoms alike, who would seek a Refuge 'ere. Therefore, neither of 'em would risk to build 'eir Snactuaries 'ere.
    2. World Event. Also, Ney. Skeletons has always sailed the seas and has always being Followers of Flameheart. Them no need no fancy ships to show 'eir devotion. However, I do say that Molten Sands needs an update. It shouldn't be another Skeleton Fort, it should be it's own World Even. With Stitcher Jim as Skeleton Lord/Herald of the Flame and him skeletons wearing fancy Ashen Dargon Clothes. With More and Better Loot and Volcano Eruption at the Final Stage of the Battle.
    3. Reopen the Heart of Fire. I would say, Ney. The Secret Vault we visited in Heart of Fire was used by Flameheart to rebuild it's ship in ghostly form, plan him next steps and fulfil the Prophecy of Herald of the Flame. But, I do say that there should be some kind of excavation. It won't be for the same purpose as the excavations in Season XIII, but it would be a New World change that may shape the future of Sea of Thieves in the Seasons to come.
    4. Rewards. Ney. I don't see the need to rebalance the Ashen Loot. Since we have amaizing Kingly Ashen Variations of it.
  • @straw-hat-blake A Devil's Roar Meg sounds interesting. And yeah, Chest of Wondrous Secrets is way too rare to be worth the trip to the Roar on its own, so there needs to be more content added someday.

  • I was in the roar two days ago and it was painful as a solo player, even after almost 1400 hours. the increase reward is just not worth it. i would either increase the value of the loot in the roar by a lot or make it less punishing, especially for solo player. it should be more like an inconvenient than a real beating. or a beating but one worth your time.

  • My hopes and dreams for the devils roar to follow...

After Flameheart is finally defeeted.. (only his ankles will be left.)
The volcanos go dormant and a calm settles over the devils roar.
The weather cools and Snow begins to fall..
Iceburgs begin to form.. and drift slowly about.
The Ashen Lord at Molton Fortress becomes a Frozen Lord.
Behold... The Snowy Region many have hoped for.

  • @selgewick I would say most of these are fair except for your criticism of the skeleton fleet idea. I think that having the ashen dragon return would be great for the lore especially since it is said that it will return when the time for its master to call it back comes
