Fun Ideas For SOT

  • Not sure if these are fantastic ideas or not, but I'd be stoked to have any of them. What about being able to have plants growing on your ship? Like potted banana plants or a passion fruit vine or something? You know, or pineapple plants, pomegranate trees, a dragon fruit cactus, or mango trees. But there's all sorts of awesome tropical fruit out there and I love growing these things in real life because theyre a ton of fun. Having something like that on our deck growing in the sun would be sick. Useful? Idk. Would it be useful at all? How would they be watered anyway? Yummy saltwater lol

    Also, what about crab pots? In real life there's nothing I love doing on the water more than throwing crab traps in the water. Dungeness crabs, blue crabs, spider crabs, stone crabs, etc. It be awesome to be able to pull up a trap in the right spot and potentially have a ton of crabs in it. The fun is in not knowing how many or if you catch anything - finding the right spot, using chicken legs or something, leaving it out long enough, and getting lucky I guess. Kind of like fishing. I mean it'd just be boring if you always caught something, right?

    Also, why not add more sea life? Dolphins, octopuses, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, different types of sharks(?) Anyways there's no end of cool stuff you can add because the ocean is rad. Do you think they are afraid of creating controversy by letting players kill and eat dolphins or something?

    Something else I wondered about is permanence of supplies. It'd be neat to have some stuff be permanent on the ship if we leave them there like supply crates, etc. Maybe stuff like this would make your ship feel more like a home or something idk. Would this cause problems or be unbalanced?

    The point of this was to come up with fun ideas and put them in the suggestion board, not to demand that a bunch of random s be added to the game lol.

  • Crab pots sounds cool to me, add them as a new meat type with a new Hunter commendation (also just expand the Hunter's call please). They could add more animals to hunt to islands as part of a Hunter's Call expansion, alligators/crocodiles, boars, large cats maybe even. Have those just as emmergent encounters like the skellies, phantoms, and ocean crawlers already are. More large sea monsters feel overdue to me too, like a sea serpent kinda thing.

    There's already fish and birds out in the wild you can't harm, so dolphins that exist only to populate waters and show up every now and then but you can't harm them would be fine. They could possibly show up as a sign of there being something else in the water nearby or upcoming. They foretell a sea monster spawn, or they signal some kind of loot in the water, idk.

    Idk how growing plants would work, but I'd love to be able to do an overgrown Ancient Isles type aesthetic for my ship with them. There's a ship crest in the emporeum covered in vines but there's no way for the rest of the ship to be overgrown to match with it.

    Supplies probably should not carry between sessions, though its so easy to supply up these days and its really rare for a battle to actually last long enough to run out that it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I would like lantern colors to persist between sessions on a captained ship though, so I can decorate my green and purple galleon with green and purple lights.
