New commendations feel a bit Grindy...

  • You need thousands of kills to complete the weapon commendations.
(Not really a fan of the new weapons)

A lot of hits with scatter shots...which the Meg is terrible for this at the moment

The thing is I'm use to grinding out the commendations and it never felt that bad... these feel pretty awful..

Running loot across the harpoon also feels redundant when harpooning the loot is just faster so you have to go out your way to use a slower method

Can't complain about the Horn commendations....those are just regular loot commendations not terrible.. outside of the horn being kind of rare

  • I created a thread about that in the feedback subsection two days ago

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/it/community/forums/topic/168683/new-war-chest-commendations-need-a-serious-rebalance/1

Anyway I totally agree. This is worst that the first version of captaincy update. No organic growth, just joyless grind with values out of this world

  • @fox-gr yes been nodding off a lot doing the phantoms at the sea firts

  • Even 100 would be a wild grind for the wind caller for people that actually play this game organically.

50-75 would be good for organic play but even 100 would be better than the unrealistic silliness of 250.

The rest is a mix of whatever to pretty obnoxious in requirement. Some of it could be brought down to organic play numbers.

I'm more interested in the horns being reduced because as it stands now it's real easy for organic style players to just skip the season after the first couple of weeks and try out season 13. I'd rather than not be the case.

All people are doing with the horn is doing a time consuming shrine cheese and that's not fun organically or for the ecosystems of servers.

At the very least put 1 (with a chance of 2) horns per shipwreck since they won't respawn anyway. Make it organically interesting at the very least.

This game has a mountain of grinds that are just doing things over and over, don't need a whole lot more of it imo.

  • I dont know what any other requirements take, but for the hunter dual shot, it seems fairly easy if you just do order voyages with the gun equipped. If the other new commendations are comparable to getting the hunter dual shot then i dont think tat they could be worse than some older ones. Trying to get the legend watch is pure suffering imo.

If the hunter dual pistol is the easiest of the new bunch, then im curious by how much since i rarely grind out commendations actively if i dont get something i want out of them.

The admiral knife can be obtained by delivering a finishing blow to a skeleton lord with the knife. The admiral dual pistol requires you to finish an ashen lord with the dual pistol. Both are easily done even in safer seas solo slooping with the diving system.
The sea dog knifes and sea dog dual pistol requires 1000 skeletons each. Phantoms, sharks, ocean crawlers they don't count, only skeletons. Not hard by more time consuming.
The royal sovereign knife and dual pistol requires every commendation from the war chest, every single one, including those that do not require the knifes and pistols themselves. This means it requires killing lots of sharks with the pistol, kill ashen skeleton with bonecallers (only ashen, not any other variant), hit a megalodon a lot of times with a scattershot, carry a lot of loot across a harpoon, repel a player that is using the harpoon with a horn of fair winds, sell hundreds of horns, use a zipline in every region, use a lot of bone callers and scattershots on skeleton ships and players ships (both separately) and other commendations. All of them to complete the War Chest Champion commendation and unlock the royal sovereign skins.

  • @goutfoot-stiner Whats wrong with grinding? You want to just be handed the commendation without putting any effort in?
There is NOTHING wrong here. Awesome commendations in my opinion. A job well done by rare.

It's an early access design for those that cheese and exploit.

At the current rng, organic play without cheesing would take most players in this game literally years to complete.

It completely goes against the marketing and messaging to throw years of grind in a season that was sold as a fun season, getting away from the "systems" that people got tired of.

Penalizing organic play is unhealthy(imo) design 6 years in when the game is already full of extreme grinds.

They are bringing back gilded voyages, that's good
They are fixing bugs, that's good
Wind caller is fun, knives are fun, harpoons are fun, these are good

No reason to create more grinds when burnout from doing the same thing over and over again has caused issues for years.

Less people will have have with the new tools when commendations are so grindy. People should be having fun with the caller, not rushing one to the outpost for the next 2 years.

  • Perhaps people wouldn't be mad if these tools and commendations existed 6 years ago in 2018. I'd prefer to set my own goals ratehr than letting the game tell me what to do. As I said in the other thread, I love Sea Forts, it's stuff I repeat despite having everything done already. In the end it comes to each individual, but I think it is much better if players repeat activities by their own will rather than having incomplete numbers in the commendations.

  • @cursed-thief Rare just made non-challenging challenges that take a long time to do. Pretend content is all i see here.....spam a throwing knife 1000 times at phantoms yay....spam 1000 double barrel pistol shots at phantoms yay.... I just did 60+ monotonous Sea forts...so exciting. Now go repeat that for skeletons...do this and be distracted from organic game play seems to be the plan here.

The idea of commendations is to reward people for doing something note worthy. Also Sea forts is the only place with enough phantom spawns to complete the commendations in a reasonable time frame

  • Why are you complaining if its non-challenging? I like that its a boring grind, that makes it difficult to finish 😄

  • @cursed-thief so you like that a game which is suppose to be for entertainment has something massively boring in it?

  • For me personally its not boring, but i enjoy that other people have a hard time doing it because its in their perspective... "boring" 😄

  • @goutfoot-stiner what? You need to Play the game more than just 2 weeks to complete the commendations? Omg!

Yeah, i found out that it does scale up, which is absolutely sad. If it kept 50 per each tier it would be reasonable, because its not like the hunter set is supposed to be this high renown set that is supposed to impress people like some other late game commendations.

After learning that its not 50 per tier it just got me to not want to grind for that new gun.
