so the reason why i want private chat, because i dont use a mic and the others when they have to talk in the game chat and the people who use mic have discord or xbox partys and we need a setting in the game that makes our texts private so we at least get some advantage for us.
ADD PRIVATE CHAT
texts private so we at least get some advantage for us.
No thanks.
Whatever you type, any pirate nearby can "see" it. It like using a Mic in open chat, anyone can hear you. Its as if you were standing right there.
But, most smart people turn off Other Crews Chat/Text so we dont see or hear other crews anyways.

Interesting take, based on what exactly? More info is usually only ever a good thing. I'll do it in specific sessions if have some spammy trolls but wouldn't want it off by default.
It makes sense I guess, and in terms of accessibility rare probably want to support people who either unable to talk or have things like social anxiety.
Despite my urge to say it breaks immersion, text is already in game and people can access channels to comm privately like you've said.
I don't know how often it would be used and whether that warrants the resource to enable it is only thing.
*edit to add, general forum etiquette please don't use all caps in titles. Shouting as it's seen is never the best way to get support for an idea
I think it would be nice to be able to specify the "volume" of text chat in the same way that voice has normal, megaphone and megaphone whispering. For console, just add a button toggle to switch between modes once the text bar is up and on PC/Keyboard, allow '/' commands.
e.g. "/w let's jump these guys once the chest is dug up" to whisper.
I have always thought some way for players to communicate in game without telling everyone around everything you are planning would be nice. The number of times i have beat open crews only because some one who grabbed my ladder or was swimming and basically announced their plan to me to tell their team really expresses that open chat only does not help in combat.
@clumsy-george There is currently a bug which is effecting some servers (mainly EU) where the in-game chat isn't working. I'll get the speech icon appear but the pirates I'm talking to can't hear me.
I type to them to communicate, to confirm that they definitely can't hear me.
@granty012 Check your Xbox.com privacy settings. You need to have "EVERYONE" selected for: "Others can communicate with voice, text, or invites"
@reverend-toast Yeah it's all the settings are correct. It's only some of the time.
I've also seen quite a lot of the SoT Partner streamers have had the same issue.

That's very isolating and makes the game feel lonely and devoid of life.
While I can understand the reasons for doing that, like toxic players or streamers, I am against doing it and more importantly, telling others to do it. For all I know Bacon, we've come across one another and you couldn't hear me which is sad to think about. (Ever seen a sloop called Acclaimed Brewer)
Sea of Thieves is a social game. Most of its principles and things you do are built upon interaction socially. Look at Glitterbeard, better yet DO Glitterbeard, remember what Teddy's (was it teddy? oh god I don't remember) principles for the game were. How he would build Sea of Thieves with the idea of players interacting with one another.
Sea of Thieves is not a Solo game and yes while we have a semi solo mode, it isn't how the game is meant to really be played and I think it really holds back everything by shutting off the social aspects of Sea of Thieves, even if temporary.
It becomes far too easy to isolate oneself online.
