When you get sunk you should respawn in another server.

  • You should not be able to just keep coming back over and over and over again to harass me after i sunk you for the 10th time. There is currently ZERO penalty for being sunk. More often than not im the one who has to change server because i wont get left alone the rest of the game if i stay there. Why cant they just die and i never see them ever again?

  • for a while there it felt like they were testing a 2 or 3 sink merge situation but that could have just been a stretch of coincidence

I could see it happening at this point in SoT.

Not strongly against it these days, best 2 outta 3 type of deal sounds alright.

Brig speed and people using siren song to manipulate spawns makes it worse so if they start merging people it would probably work alright.

  • You should not be able to just keep coming back over and over and over again to harass me after i sunk you for the 10th time.

Its not Harassing. Its combat, which apparently this game needs but loses because of these issues.

Time, Resources collected, sailing distance. That to me stinks.

More often than not im the one who has to change server because i wont get left alone the rest of the game if i stay there.

    Go play Safer Seas.

Why cant they just die and i never see them ever again?

So if you were doing a Fort...and someone used a Keg to destroy your ship, you be okie being suddenly Switched Servers?

  • I dont see it being correct to eject the boat if the same loot is still in play for.

    Hence i would do:

Spawn on ashen reaches if you are sunk the 3 times within 2 hours.

If you are sunk 5 times within 2 hours, server merge the sunken to a new server.

Getting attacked by the same crew once an hour should not be penalized. That frequency is regular server activity that should be dealt with as expected gameplay.

  • @ferroushornet01 let's look at it like this you have a ship full of loot you get sunk because you forgot to patch a hole on your ship then you respawn and all your loot is on another server.....you could have a ship full of loot you sunk and you zero chance to try to get the loot back......I do agree ships should spawn far away from where they have sunk to give the winner time to collect the loot and set sail

  • Im not saying that its totally false, but i have to hold some reservation that more often than not people come back endlessly.

As far as i have seen, unless some one spawns really close by, they rarely return even a second time. Both when playing or watching some one streaming the game it is fairly uncommon, so if you really are getting it happening constantly then im going to chuck that up to total bad luck that you get matched in a server with people who do that rather than an issue of the game.

If you look back on any other thread asking to move people when they sink you will run into plenty of answers why its not a good idea, so no thanks.

  • I don't agree with merge but think they should spawn further away each time as a disincentive to come back repeatedly. After you've sunk twice its just pettiness to try and waste people's time.

  • I think everyone should be able to have a chance to win back whatever they lose after sinking, but there's certainly a point at which crews should just take the L. I'd be more in favour of ships getting 3 sinks to PvP per server before they're merged out.

  • @ferroushornet01
Unfortunatly what you encounted is exploit.

When crew vote for skull of siren song voyage their ship allways will respawn close to ship that sunk it.

It was reproted many times and I hardly can understand why they did not patch something that is so easly abusable way to grief players.

  • @ferroushornet01

I'll reply with the same solution I always suggest when this happens.

Every time you are sunk within a certain area/time frame, you respawn progressively farther away from the area you were sunk from. If you reach the point where there is no longer a safe area to respawn in, you are moved to another server.

This means that you have some number of chances to try and come back, but each time it takes longer, the chances of you successfully getting back in time shrink, and eventually you are forced to take "no" for an answer.

  • If they'd just revert the Skull of Siren Song respawn changes so that every PvP sink is always as far away as possible this wouldn't be that much of an issue. PvE sinks being an island away is fine, and I understand the thinking behind wanting to keep ships involved in the Siren Song close to the action but in practice its just a headache.

  • I was watching a fight on a stream last night over a fotd.

Both sunk each other and the one that got attacked got sent across the map and the one that attacked spawned at the fotd within seconds of the loot. Specifically because of siren song spawning.

Siren song spawns are ridiculous in random adventure scenarios.

It's long been bad but it's far far worse with siren song exploit spawning. I call it an exploit because people are intentionally using it in a way for spawns and not for the content, at the expense of other players that are not doing that.

  • @otherfanboy 9 times out of 10 you will not get your loot back unless someone else finds it before it sinks. Respawning and coming back for it rarely ever works

And if you don't attempt, you recover treasure 0% of the time.

Then it should be fine to spawn camp crews who come back 3+ times. No problem coming back for round two, but if they don't learn their lesson after being sunk twice, it's clear that the relentless crew won't learn their lesson and needs to undergo other methods of persuasion.
After all, it's not harassing, it's combat.

  • @soulstinger2k20 loot floats for about 5mins if your solo there's a good chance it will be lost depending on where you respawn if you got crew one can stay behind resetting the timer as the other sails back to where you sunk assuming you remember where you sunk but against the wind with a sloop it take about 15mins to sail from Devils Ridge to Smugglers Bay odds are you'll be closer than that

  • I agree and disagree with this idea. If you sink someone with tons of loot and the ship you sunk spawns 1 island away, it's impossible to grab it all and go sell it.
Think the main fix would be to spawn the other ship at least 5+ squares away from you if not more so you have time to grab everything and actually have a good chance to sell it too.

If you have an alliance and you forget about a hole in your ship and you sink, you would just auto-merge to a new server and leave your alliance behind which would be a bit silly.

  • Ney, Thats not how the Game Works, Lad.

  • Eh, it would be incredibly annoying to be on super active and fun server, get sunk a couple times, and then sent to a completely dead server

  • Uh oh! Ship has come back, you disconnect because reasons, and now your ship is sunk, that’s you booted from that server with no chance to get your hard earned loot back. Yeah, definitely not fair.
