'Video driver has crashed and has reset'

  • Ahoy, i updated SoT 103.2GB in MS Store, as soon as it was finished the game itself had to update 100.1GB.
I finally got the game started and i only get about 10 minutes of gameplay before the game crashes and i get the 'Video driver has crashed and has been reset' message.
I have uninstalled and re-installed TWICE since then, ive check my GPU drivers for updates but its fully updated, ive checked windows for updates, ive reverted Dx3d-12 back to Dx3d-11, ive turned off multicore rendering and ive put in a support ticket with Dxdiag report and windows event log attachments.
ive had nothing back from SoT support and im at my wits end.
i paid for the game on MS Store and refuse to purchase it a second time on Steam (which some people have actually done).
Ive seen other people have the same thing happen and cant find anywhere that says Sot have acknowledged this issue.

will this get acknowledged or fixed or is that me just not getting to play again?

  • same boat as you right now. I played SoT religiously back in the covid days and now I get the same message 10-30 minutes into the game.
I've tried everything I think there is to try and I haven't found anything thats worked for me yet. Hope support helps you solve your problem

  • For me limiting the FPS seems to help.

  • Might not be a solution that works for you, but I stopped getting those after I upgraded my CPU back in the day.
However, I recall I got it again a few months back... So might be unrelated, but try playing with lower settings.

  • I was having the same problem and found this in a similar thread: "If you are running the game using Steam, right-click Sea of Thieves in the game list and select Properties. Type -d3d11 in the Launch Options box from the General section."
    It worked for me.
