Should the TTK be longer?

  • THE STORY

I had a sloop vs brigantine battle yesterday (I was on the sloop) where the hitreg put on quite a spectacular performance - i.e. it didn't work . Practically every player - including me - took at least 2-3 shots with blunderbuss, sometimes it took the sword more than 4 hits to kill someone. Now this may sound bad at first, but surprisingly this way, I felt the skill that was needed... which SHOULD BE needed for this game. I didn't feel like I could take anyone out with 1 shot, I didn't feel like I could instantly die to just one good move, in fact I felt like I needed to be more skilled overall, move more, move better, position myself better, and last but not least aim better. I felt that this battle was not decided by RNG backtrack and "who shot first", but more by game sense and skill. And that was good.

For the first time in my life, I felt like the hitreg - because it was at least consistently bad - had a good effect on pvp, in that I did have to put in the work to beat my opponents.

    CONCLUSION

If ALL weapons would do less damage, the TTK would be longer and the battle would last longer too, which would give more opportunities for skill expression. On one hand, this would make PvP encounters more exciting, and on the other hand, it would make the stakes feel higher and the victory more deserved (or on the flip side: fairer to lose).

Obviously, I'm not saying that hitreg is fine as it is: NO, THAT'S NOT THE SOLUTION

I'm merely saying that ALL weapons should do less damage (but even if not all, the bare minimum would be to take the one-tap blunderbuss mechanic out of the game).

    What do you think?

  • think about a solo slooper vs a galleon crew. Lets say everyones weapon damage is halved. They still kill you in no time while you basically need way more time fighting them off than before. It goes both ways but lets say with less weapon damage the boarding will shake up even more towards more and simultaneous boarders where the smaller crews already have a big disadvantage. Pair that with the harpoon boarding coming and imagine having a person on your ship. They can and will much more easily 1. get on and 2. immobilize you because there would be no chance for a quick one-blunder before the anchor is fully dropped. And at that point it will be almost game over. At the end of the day I'm afraid it will lead to even bigger disadvantages for smaller vs. bigger crews.

  • I would enjoy the luxury of quick fights. Hitreg and the abundance of pineapples make deck fighting overly long and drawn out, thanks to this, the blunderbuss is the holy grail where everyone seeks the coveted one-shot to end a potential long fight.

  • I personally belive TTK is currently at its all time longest with the biggest factors being:
    -Pineapples being common food.
    -Quickswap changed.
-High Sloop popularity after Crew Scaling in Season 9 limiting group damage output.

I did a poll in the forums a few months ago asking what food you bring as a boarder, it was a unanimous
"5 Pineapples/Meg/Kraken, why use anything else?"

Just jump around with good food and the average player will never send you to the ferry.

  • @thekratex7201 I’d go for increasing player health but either of these would give opponents a free board, especially against solo players.
