EAC - Unknown File Version(SoTgame.exe)

  • I am playing via the Xbox App/Microsoft Store and getting this error: EAC - Unknown File Version(SoTgame.exe), Launch Error: Unrecognized game client. Cannot Continue.

    I have:

I have contacted support, and have received an automated response from the 'Forza Support Team'. Further interactions have yielded generic responses such as reinstalling, rebooting, verifying game files, and formatting the PC.

I know there are other threads with similar topics, but this is the community weekend and we have yet to receive a response on the matter. I know there are crashes happening, but a lot of folks cannot even get into the main menu.

Please reply with a fix, or let us know that you are working on it.

  • I'm equally disappointed by the lack of communication, or even a acknowledgment of this specific issue, by the dev team.
I understand they a probably all hands of deck getting their Play Station users on board smoothly, but this bug is affecting a large number of Xbox App/Microsoft Store players.
My 10 year old son loves playing this game and has become a fanatic, and he is so so upset with this delay, checking in constantly, hoping it patched.
I'm beginning to think that their dev team are not even monitoring this support forum.
Is there any way to reach anyone with some sway in the dev team to begin addressing this issue by first acknowledging it, and then committing to find and fix the fault?

  • @andrewai2022 I've had no luck on the Discord or Twitter. I tried contacting support, to no avail. I am unsure of where to go to resolve this before the weekend event is over.

  • According to the support ticket response i've just received, the engineering team is aware of the issue and are working on a fix.

  • I've done it all too. I've been following your posts about this but I see it's not something that happens to a lot of people. I hope Rare will consider it for their next update. I have the same error as you and I have done the same thing as you and nothing.

  • Has anyone had any luck?

I have reinstalled about 6 times now and each time i cannot get into the game, I have had these problems:

-sea of thieves error code: (0xc000001d)
-sea of thieves error code: (0xc000005d)
-Sea of thieves unrecognised file cannot open
    -Splash screen appearing then closing.

I have no idea why this is happening as i have looked through EAC help support and done litteraly everything, and theres players on MS store who can get on and some who cant. My friend who has it downloaded on same place as me (microsoft store)can get in but i cant????? EXPLAIN PLEASEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im contemplating on purchasing on steam at this rate as i havent been able to play on my pc in 2 months. Also through xbox there are issues so i can rarely play on that,
    -Charcoalbeard
    -Bronzebeard
-Also crashing multiple times in a session without notice or telling me why and i have a modern xbox.

  • anyone had any luck or we still waiting for support they said to do all the same things and i still cant get past the EAC unknown launcher failed to launch . its a shame too cause out of all the recent update changes ive only gotten to see the sail models be changed RIP DAsails

  • Nothing happened yet? That is hard... Really sad about rare support

  • @monkeydjury - This worked for some other people: https://www.reddit.com/r/Seaofthieves/comments/1dk8dqe/comment/lb2t9wy/

  • To whomever this may concern year later - today I encountered this problem on a steam version of the game. What helped me: I deleted the whole "EasyAntiCheat" folder in the game's core directory, then verified files via steam. Steam downloaded EasyAntiCheat back and the game works fine after that.
