Cheese Meta

  • I’ve always perceived cheesers as not great at the game or just a tired completionist. However, I keep running into a certain cheese group and it’s not just low level new players. Some of these people are 200-300+ days. I just think it’s sad that the state of the game has turned cheesing into the meta. I even tried to vent to a “veteran” party of players and they defended the cheese and said that I need to “get with the times” and become okay with cheesing because this new generation of players don’t want to sweat like I did.

I recommend shooting them in the face with cannon balls next time.

  • Cheese is not gouda for the game. I camembert a time when you had to do a lot of things the hard way. Rare's lack of action has created a muenster.

  • It's difficult because everyone has to decide their own boundaries in terms of what they deem acceptable or not. I don't like these reputation exploits, seems pointless but then I'm happy to slowly progress knowing I play enough I'll get there in a reasonable time.
But I know I've done other stuff which others may deem wrong like using tall tale checkpoints rather than do it 5 times, use a tall tale to shift storms etc.

  • It's frustrating but I wouldn't let it get personal.

If it's really frustrating I would just play other games until something pops up in sot that you are interested in.

It's been frustrating for me as well but at the end of the day we are still a community and the only way up is through encouraging one another on the good stuff.

I'm still playing but I stopped doing a lot of stuff because of where the game is at right now.

Forums are here to share opinions and ideas in relevant threads if people need a spot to talk stuff that friends might not see eye to eye on in the game.

We are all gonna disagree on stuff, perhaps even strongly, gotta get through it together one way or another, peacefully even if peacefully critical at times.

Things will improve, the environment regularly changes, it'll work out alright.

    Dude… someone pay this man.

  • The only thing they are doing is cheesing themselves. They are the sort who then come running to the forums demanding more content because they've 'completed it'. The exploits could do with fixing but it's probably not a simple fix, hence why it's not fixed. Hopefully it's fixed soon and we can chuckle to ourselves at those who have just lost days of enjoyment and organic progress.

  • Only ever heard of the Cheese Feta.

  • All these puns are GRATE!

  • It's human to take the easy route, unfortunately. What is bad luck is the game's non-reaction to this. they only reduced the value of loot for a short period of time. No message to the community, no warning, no deactivation of the forts in question to remedy this. as usual they will try to pass the thing in the next update. but why not... with time everything goes away ;)

  • Still proud I cheesed Fleet of Fancy to see if I could! (I could btw)

Nacho problem how I play lol.

    I remember you doing this.

Example of "cheesing" leaning harmless imo, you paid for the boats and it's a personal achievement. Also sacrificed the boats to count.

I don't really even see that as cheesing as you paid a bunch for it without keeping the boats. You could have eaten a billion bananas to do it without doing anything else on a server, so it's not taking anything from the server.

I think some people were doing other things that were cheesing it but I remember you talking about paying for it.

Great pun, but this is more along the lines of people getting a lot of rep in a very short amount of time. It’s less about the cheese itself and more about the culture of the game shifting towards a cheese meta.

  • Does this harm your own game? No?

This might sound so cheesy, but it be grate if everyone just do there own thing and Grill it.

  • Well cheese-us, just be grate-ful there are a lot of holes in this plot!

  • I still-ton brie-lieve Rare will remove the cheese someday.

  • Once you come to terms with understanding and accepting that how other people progress in a game (particularly one with no vertical progression such as this one) has absolutely no impact on your own progression, playstyle or gaming experience, I promise your entire worldview will shift and you'll get more enjoyment out of gaming as a whole. It happened to me a long time ago.

The idea of feeling like it was some kind of injustice that someone else unlocked or achieved something, ANYTHING, faster or easier than you did is a natural human one, to be sure. It's jealousy. Envy. "Why not me?"

Being the bigger person and letting go of those feelings is hard sometimes; lord knows it was for me when I was an arrogant little butt in my 20s and convinced I was owed everything.

    tl;dr:

It's not-zzarella something to concern yourself with, my friends. Don't be an ASSiago to your fellow pirates!

No impact other than community weekend being nerfed because of how extreme it is.

No impact other than ledgers being made worse and worse for players that play organically, directly negatively affecting people by requiring them to do more because people are cheesing and cheating.

No impact other than ridiculously uninteresting servers for players that don't cheat and cheese because there is less participation for months of a season, because people do less when they cheese more.

People cheesing emissaries do impact other players, for every 100 players cheesing this, whether on pre-made alliance servers or using some recent exploit that's going around recently, there's 100 players who should have gotten rank 1 but just missed out, 100 players who should have gotten rank 2 but just missed out and 100 people not getting the rewards because they're on top 100 of rank 4.

The creation of pre-made alliance servers messes up servers people land on and abandon ship - while people who prefer to be left alone and avoid other players might love that once in a while one or more spots on the server is unused for 10 minutes or so, people who want the intended experience of other crews sailing around don't.

Repeated instances of ships entering and leaving probably has also some stablity effects on the server as a whole.

Rare has a history of setting some numbers for getting a certain achievement. commendation or milestone and readjusting this - when there are a certain number of people reaching these numbers they might not get adjusted or future numbers are in the same ballpark as those earlier.

What some people call cheesing might be considered cheating - people will consider some cheating therefor as in a grey area in between or even cheese. Without cheese those lines will be better defined and hopefully less people will go from cheese to cheat.

Tell that to the cheesers - they are the Italian cheese 😁.
