Tell me Fellow Xbox Mouse and Keyboard Players, What Made You Start Using Mouse and Keyboard?

  • I'm curious. Tell me my fellow Xbox mouse and keyboard players, what made you switch from controller to using mouse and keyboard, and have your skills improved?

Personally, it was this one time in a controller only server where I was in an alliance doing a FOF, when these 2 dudes showed up and wrecked us, yet we somehow won the battle, and I realized afterwards that I need to try using the mouse and keyboard I got for Minecraft, and my skills did improve, now I feel like I could take care of those exact guys more easily.

  • My two crewmates are both on PC, so we're always on seas with both M&K and controller players. I was on controller, but always felt like I was at a disadvantage, even just with small things like panning around the map table. Now I can have quick inputs for various things ie. Scroll up on the wheel for wood, down for bucket, to make my life easier.

Am I better at the game? Not sure, I'm still very average when it comes to combat, but at least I know that it's my skill level rather than an equipment disadvantage!

  • I've played a lot on mouse and keyboard and controller now and a lot on shared servers and controller servers.

My opinion is that most players in this game will have a more enjoyable time on this game by sticking to controller servers if they are controller players.

For different reasons than others will say though,

A lot of players will say because of cheating or skill, controller servers have more consistent skill but that's only because a lot of the brand new players end up on shared/pc servers.

The reason I think that a majority will enjoy controller servers more is that most of the player content creation is on pc servers, that changes the ecosystem of servers dramatically.

Controller servers are far more about the experience and pc/shared servers are far more heavily focused on the content/clips/twitterverse

If someone is here specifically for organic adventure with pvp just being a part of it and they use controller I highly recommend sticking to the controller and controller servers. Far better resource for organic adventure scenarios and encounters.

  • I'm really, really bad at PvP using a controller, and after switching to mouse and keyboard I'm only bad.

On controller I wasn't able to find the right sensitivity for me and I was either too slow to follow what's happening or couldn't see anything because everything was moving too fast. Having a lot of keys for binding various things is also a huge plus.

  • I play both ways... mainly on my pc with m/k, but still play on my xbox with controller... and yet sometimes with my xbox and controller.

with controller, aiming cannons/harpoons/guns is tougher with the stick, whereas on mouse you can instinctively move to where you want to aim... with harpoons and cannons I use both a keyboard and mouse as both can move it at the same time.

map table with controller is ridiculous...

I'm much better with m/k as far as even just running around, seems you can keep your mouse looking where you want to run without thinking, where with the controller, you're constantly looking too high, too low....

  • For me I can say , it was impossible to build a gamer PC, for the cost of a Xbox Series X... The Series X runs 4K@60fps easy.
I run on my 70-inch 4K tv, with 7.1 Dolby Atmos, in my living room, and 1080p@120fps in my secondary gaming room (using headset).
i use 75% controller and 25% K&M, without breaking any budget.

  • For me it’s when I’m trying to target someone on another ship and we’re perfectly death spiraling. Yet I can’t get my eye of reach to place on the enemies head. I push it too far left or right passing by them. With M&K much better precision. Besides bring accurate I actually prefer the controller.
