Speeding up Hourglass Queue

  • In relation to the hourglass mode in this game, has it been considered at any point to put in a computer enemy as your opponent instead of a player? I do not enjoy queuing in hourglass as the expected matchmaking time can sometimes take forever and I could've been playing the game in the time I have spent under water. I enjoy the invasion and defending the faction stash/haul mode but I would like to be able to actually fight a bit more consistently. If battles of the same faction type can happen, maybe I could fight a faction-aligned computer-controlled Athena ghost crewed ship or Reaper skeleton crewed ship after 30 minutes have passed in the queue. That would be better in my opinion instead of going back to the adventure world after being unable to find a match. Receiving that message makes me feel a little lost because my intention with the session was to get into a match and would just like to be in the action.

Would it also be possible to add an auto hourglass faction vote setting similar to the auto vote on quest/voyage setting too? I lose a lot and I have to go through a two-step voting process (hourglass, flag) every time I arrive back in the tavern, I think it could smooth out the onboarding a bit.

  • Wait so you want to cue for pvp to be matched with a pve enemy? OK buddy

  • @unblinkingmass7 long as you don’t get any faction rep considering you’ve not fought an actual PvP enemy, then yeah, by all means.

  • I do not enjoy queuing in hourglass as the expected matchmaking time

Why not Defend? That way your actually doing something while you wait.. I feel players tend to forget there are TWO choices to play Hourglass, maybe three if you add "You dont have to use HG"

Only if its always a Galleon AI ship and they fire every random cannonball, chainshot, curseball, fireball and blunder. That way its not a normal "Fleet" ai ship battle, you getting a free win :p

When I queue for pvp, I would like to matched to another player, but everytime I queue a huge chunk of my time is wasted and no match is made.

Yes, that is what I have been doing and it does work out fine, as like you have said I can play the game while I wait. Would like to use the queue in the future if I want.

That's fine, I just don't want to be thrown back to the sea of thieves without getting a matched fight. It would be good practice.

  • @unblinkingmass7 are you cueing at busy times? Cueing at 3am won't be as populated as cueing at 4pm I agree that when kids are in school/adults are at work and when most people are normally asleep cue times can be long and result in being sent back to an outpost but evenings and weekends that's just not the case as all

  • The only way for them to fix HG at this point is the fix the game issues and add new content so we will have more players. I know i will not touch HG at this point due to the cheats and exploits around it and then the server and waiting time issues.

I am not sure when the busy times are, I have been trying out different days to see if there is any difference. I've only been sent back to the outpost once between when I last posted and now, that was instantly too. The rest of the time I have been put into a queue, so I don't know how it works out how to match me up. Honestly it needs to have better statistics to display while in the queue so you can see what is going on and if you should leave.

I don't have anything else to say on this topic, but being stuck in the queue gave me some time to think about further suggestions:

    • If the PvE replacement battle for hourglass was add, the reward should be supplies, just enough that a player would consider going multiple dives to get more, which could help fill up the queue.
    • The smaller the sum of the streaks held between the two fighters, the faster the boundary circle should shrink, until the aggregate streak is equal to the third streak when it stops. This way it encourages newer players to engage with one another and lets people who are good at the mode to battle it out endlessly without a time limit.
    • Allow some sort of minigame to pass the time in the queue.

This is probably more the way forward, I have encountered some of these and I hope that the Preview Event coming up on 20th March will detail some updates to HG.
